News from this week
Dear Parents,
The students have all received their new book club book and weekly assignment. I have told them that they are to bring their books home and back to school everyday until the assignments is completed. The students are very excited to read these books, and many of the ones they picked are some of my favorites. Please make sure your child is completing the assignment - reading and completed packet - by their due date (it is written on their weekly packet). Also have them read some of it to you and make sure to ask them questions about what is happening in the story to check for their understanding. I have told them that if they do not complete the assigned work once, they will be given a warning. If they do not have it completed twice, they will be dismissed from the book club. They can write this reading on their weekly reading log.
The students all have a log in for Readworks.org (see my website). We completed 2 articles this week on the Civil War. I will continue to post assignments in Readworks from now until the end of the year. I can go in and see who has completed the assignments and the scores that were received. I can also 'grade' the open ended questions and leave feedback for questions that may not have been answered completely. Please encourage your child to complete these assignments weekly. They are all linked to our science and social studies content. These articles can also be recorded on reading logs for nightly reading. I also have web tile links on eClass for 3 different reading sites and a math site. Just scroll towards the bottom of my eClass page. If you have any questions please ask!
We have started studying the Civil War, which is a new unit for 4th grade. The students are really interested in the information and are very engaged in the lessons. I have posted the lessons as I teach them on my eClass, so students can go and review what we have learned about the War. There is text information and video clips to explain. I will continue to post the lessons as I teach them and other information I come across.
Also on my eClass, I have posted several websites that are good for helping your child review for Milestones. It is listed under Milestones review under the Content section of the site.
Spring Picture day and the Book Fair are coming up. Please refer to the Important Dates section below.
Please send in a folder with prongs for your child if you can. I would like to start to compiling writing portfolios. :-)
A pink form was sent home last Friday for your input regarding your child's teacher next year. This form helps administrators place your child in next year's class
If you would like to order a yearbook for your child, please make sure to do so before the end of March. No extra yearbooks are ordered, so this is your only opportunity to buy one. You can find more information in today's Friday Folder.
Have a great weekend!
