Who is Dewey?
The Dewey Decimal Classification System Challenge
Who am I?
This is Melvil Dewey who developed the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
Dewey Decimal Classifications
These are the 10 classifications used in most school and public libraries to locate non-fiction books.
Let's Find Some Books
Locate your book by looking at the address label on the spine of the book.
Do you want to participate in The Dewey Decimal Classification System Challenge?
Well, here's how:
- Check out 5 books from the media center from 5 different Dewey Classification categories and get a Dewey Decimal Classification System Challenge Form.
- Read 5 books in a row (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally). The center square is your free choice to read a book from any category.
- Pass an Accelerated Reader quiz with 70%. Dr. Cartwright will then stamp the appropriate box on your form.
- List the title, author, and Dewey Decimal Number for each category on the back of
your form. That's It!
Each student that completes a Dewey Decimal Classification System Challenge Form will receive a small prize.
Submit all stamped sheets by Friday, September 30th to be entered in the grand prize drawing. The grand prize drawing will be held on Monday, October 3rd.
