Principal's Message
Happy New Year! We hope that you had a safe and restful break and are excited to start school again!
January brings us new and exciting things to learn at Elmdale School. Colleen Watchorn will be at our school as part of the Artist in the School program. She will be working with each student from K-4, which I'm sure will be a highlight! We will be presenting this artwork at our Family Celebration of Learning event in February. A big thank you to our Parent Advisory Council for sponsoring this program!
Later in the month all of our students will have a chance to learn all about ringette in Phys Ed class, thanks to the Eastman Ringette Association who are lending us a set of indoor ringette equipment.
With more snow on the ground now we will also be bringing out the sleds to provide some more options for outdoor play during recess. We look forward to seeing the students enjoying these on the playground!

NEW! Online Registration for Kindergarten
Kindergarten Registration for the 2019-20 school year will open on January 7, 2019. The registration process will take place online at HSD.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit our school (after registration has opened), and we will assist you in completing the registration form on a school computer.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible upon the opening of registration, or by mid-February at the latest. Registering early will assist our school in preparation and planning for the upcoming school year. Early registration also provides parents/guardians with the opportunity to participate in upcoming 2019-20 orientation activities.
Children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2019 to be eligible for 2019-20 registration, and are required to attend the school within the catchment area in which they reside.
Please visit the divisional website at HSD.ca for complete details and instructions.
Illness
With the cold weather we have noticed an increase of sickness among students. A few things to note:
- We do not provide indoor supervision during recess, so we cannot accommodate notes that indicate a child should stay inside at recess. Please ensure your child has enough cold weather clothing to go outside for recess.
- If your child has been sick, please ensure that enough time has passed before sending them back to school - this helps prevent the spread of illness in the school. A good rule of thumb is 24 hours after they have started antibiotics, 24 hours after their fever has broken, and 24 hours after the last time they have thrown up.
- If you are keeping your child at home, please remember to contact the school to let us know.
A Note from PAC
