Monthly Celebration
For the monthly celebration activity this week, students will be creating a class quilt of what they are thankful for. Teachers will be provided with a paper square for each student to decorate. Teachers may put together the quilt together however they see fit and are asked to hang the completed class quilt in the hallway near their room before conferences begin. Teachers may consider having students share their square during morning meeting. Support teachers will be assigned a room to help support the classroom teacher with the activity. Unfortunately, we were not able to schedule the high school drum line to come preform but will consider having them come at another assembly.

DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENTS & UPDATES
Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision K-12 Science Competition Opportunity
ExploraVision, which is sponsored by Toshiba and administered by NSTA, was created to help motivate K-12 students to engage in real world problem solving with a strong emphasis on STEM. ExploraVision challenges students to envision and communicate new technology 20 years in the future through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology. Coding and computational thinking are also included in the experience. Working in teams of two to four, students have the opportunity to win up to a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond (at maturity). The program is also offering great prize packages for the teachers and the school with the largest number of qualified teams. Teachers can learn more about the 2016–2017 competition by watching ExploraVision’s video, hosted by Bill Nye the Science Guy, or visiting the competition website. The deadline for all projects is February 6th. This deadline coincides with our SDoL STEM Fair in terms of creating one project that could be entered in multiple competitions.
