COYLE'S ROWLETT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NOVEMBER 2022 TEACHER/STAFF MEMBER OF THE MONTH

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. SONIA BROWN - SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Big picture
Ms. Brown attended Mississippi Valley State and Walden University. She has a Minor in Education, BS in Social Work, and a Master in Education with a focus on Behavior. This year marks her 23rd year teaching at Coyle MST, and total of 29 years teaching in the education field.

We are so honored to have Ms. Brown serving our kids and school community! Not only does she teach one of our most vulnerable population of students, she invests her time supporting many of our campus activities and organizations. We are thankful to have a leader like Ms. Brown serving our school community! She is truly what we call a "runner" and exemplifies our standard of "giving to the Team what the Team needs!" Congratulations on this honor and recognition by your peers and the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce! #CougarPRIDE #destinationA #bethelight

Congratulations to our Fall Sports Teams and Coaches on a great season!

Some of Coyle Art students created alters for Día de los Muertos, and these were on display at the Granville Arts Center in downtown Garland.

Our Campus Goal is 96.5% or higher each week!

#DestinationA - The staff at Coyle truly believes in our students and their ability to reach an A-rating this school year! We tag all of our social media posts with #DestinationA as an encouragement and motivation for all of us….admin, teachers, staff, students, and families! Yes, families, too! Your partnership and positive engagement is just as important to the success of our school community as our admin, teachers, staff, and students.

Attendance Averages for 10/31-11/4:

  • Coyle MS (8th grade) - 87.35%
  • Coyle MS (7th grade) - 82.82%
  • Coyle Tech (6th grade) - 77.21%

Ensure your student is present at school everyday! Our campus attendance goal is 96% or higher each week. During the first grading cycle, we average 94.1%. Not only did we lose valuable state funding for those students who were not in attendance, but we are below our minimum required to reach the top 25% of our campus comparison group. If we fail to reach the top 25%, we lose points towards getting our desired A-Rating.

Students who do not meet the compulsory attendance requirements will be subjected to a home visit by campus admin or district personnel, or withdrawal from school. You may view the Compulsory Attendance Requirements.

DRESS CODE

Ensure that your student is following all district and campus expectations (student code of conduct, dress code, technology policy, positive behavior expectations). When students cooperate with district and campus expectations, admin, teachers, and staff have more time to focus on providing students with an exceptional education instead of spending valuable time correcting misbehaviors. Every minute students spend in their academic environment increases their opportunities for success! You can review campus and district expectations by clicking the links below:

SCHOOL ID'S and PAW CARDS!

Please make sure that our students understand the importance of wearing an identification badge, please emphasize the importance of wearing their ID badge, and model GISD requirements as well using the Student PAW card presentation.

We are still working on a plan to get school IDs to new students and those who were not here on picture day. We will send out that information as soon as possible.

Courageous Conversations About Coyle’s Data

Principal Barnett and our campus leadership team is in the beginning stages of preparing a new Parent Family Engagement series of discussions titled “Courageous Conversations About Coyle’s Data”. During these interactive discussion sessions, we will examine problems of practice with respect to our diverse student group’s academic, social, and behavioral data in order to address the relationship between race and achievement. Principal Barnett is acutely aware of the statistical gaps in achievement in our diverse student population, and realizes that eliminating this disparity is critical to developing cultural proficiency and students success for ALL of Coyle students! Courageous conversations about data helps our campus leaders and families understand why performance inequity persists and how to develop action plans that guide policy analysis and instructional reform that promotes true academic parity to “eliminate our achievement gaps!” More Information to Come!!
