DMS Weekly Update
Week of January 10
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Attention! Dismissal Time Change!
Middle School Dismisses at 1:15pm beginning January 4th!
Beginning tomorrow, January 4th, we will be operating at the middle school level on a modified dismissal time of 1:15 p.m. for the first two weeks of school (January 4-15).
The reason for this change is that these two weeks are now the times where SDPC must give End-of-Course tests and midterm or final exams for select high school credit courses due to us starting school later in August than we had originally scheduled. This schedule is also based on the need to keep middle school and high school dismissals aligned for the purpose of bus routes in the afternoon.
January 18th
Monday, January 18th is the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. Schools in SDPC will be closed in honor of this holiday.
January 19th
Returning PCVA Students Orientation
January 10, 2021
Greetings from DMS! We are excited to welcome our returning students in grades 6-8 from the PCVA. We have been hard at work preparing classrooms, desks, and schedules for your return.
In an effort to share our COVID-19 guidelines and protocols that our students in the building have been following this year, we are inviting all returning PCVA students to DMS on January 19th from 8:30am-10:30am for the following:
1. Meet your teachers! You will want to meet your teachers and learn about classroom protocols and instructional expectations that will make your transition back to Face2Face learning much easier.
2. Receive your schedule! You will want to know where to report on January 20th for your “first day of school”. You will receive your schedule and meet your Related Arts teachers too. Release Time students must submit their signed permission to leave campus by 1/20 (the first day of class).
3. Receive your car line number and bus information. How we dismiss and the time we dismiss has changed since last school year. You will need this information for 1/20.
4. Yearbook information and lunch information will be provided on this day!
5. Your chromebook will be checked to make sure it is in working order and connecting correctly to our server so that you will be able to access the Schoology folders that all F2F students have been accessing this year for digital assignments.
This will be a very important day for our returning PCVA students and cannot be made up on January 20th.
Doors open at 8:15am! Wear your face mask! Bring your Chromebook!
Reminders for parents of returning PCVA students:
1. School doors open at 7:45am. Please drop students off as close to 8:00am as possible. We do not have staff available to monitor social distancing of students prior to 7:45am.
2. All Students and staff must wear masks while arriving to campus, leaving campus, while up and moving on campus, and in areas/classrooms where 6ft of distance cannot be maintained.
3. If your child is absent, all work can be accessed in Schoology folders. We no longer collect paper copies of classwork for pick up.
4. Visitors to DMS must wear a mask and will be asked to remain in the lobby.
5. All conferences and meetings must be scheduled so that meeting spaces can be prepared for individuals.
6. Parents should check their email weekly for the DMS Weekly Newsletter.
7. Letters concerning positive cases of COVID-19 for students and staff are sent each afternoon when a positive case has been determined and communicated.
We are looking forward to receiving our students on 1/19 for an orientation and sharing of information that will prepare them for January 20th.
Please call the school at 864-397-3500 with any questions you may have.
Kind Regards,
Wanda Tharpe
