SHOUT OUTS AND CELEBRATIONS

DO YOU KNOW?
- In-School Suspension Center at Shaw - allows students who have received a 10 day or less suspension, to serve that suspension at the center, keep up with their school work, and be counted as present in school. One of the obstacles for students that have been suspended out of school is that absences mount up and they feel like that the work or the time cannot be made up and they may drop out. The in-school suspension center allows them to stay in school at Shaw, not be counted absent, and keep up with the work so that when they return to their home school, they are not behind.
- Transition strategies - we have a renewed focus and effort on those students that go to Shaw in helping them transition successfully back to their home school.
- Drop-In Program - for students that may have circumstances in their life (i.e. a child at home and they don't have childcare during the day or they may have to work) that prohibit them from attending school during traditional hours. They are able to take classes in the afternoon or at times that are more conducive to their schedules.
- Weekly meetings - the drop out prevention team meets weekly at the high school to discuss at-risk students and put plans in place to prevent them from dropping out.
- We also recognize that students dropping out is not just a high school problem. It truly is a Pre-K through high school issue. We are working with students earlier to put interventions in place to encourage them to stay in school and graduate.
We are already seeing positive results from these programs and procedures that have been implemented this year and we will continue to expand our opportunities for all of our students to be successful and graduate from high school career and college ready.
We want YOUR feedback!

Flippin' for our graduates
If anyone would like to donate to the Senior Savings Account, you can send checks (made out to Scotland High School) to SHS teacher, Meg Johnson, at 1000 West Church Street, Laurinburg. The high school would also accept donations of royal blue caps and gowns that can be given to students as well.
