Letter to Seniors and Parents regarding Senior Events
Hello Class of 2020:
Over the past two months, the Fraser Seniors of 2020 have demonstrated tremendous class and great compassion during an extremely difficult time in history. We have talked about these times being “unprecedented” and “uncharted.” However, that does not make the loss of Senior Spring events and activities any easier to process. Despite these disappointments, we want you to know how proud we are of each and every one of you. We know how hard you have worked to complete your academic credits and earn a Fraser Diploma.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 restrictions regarding large gatherings, we will be unable to have the traditional senior graduation on June 6th. Please know that we have worked hard to consider all options. Nonetheless, we are still excited to share with you our plan for end of the year senior events based upon the current constraints. Also, once the restrictions have lightened up (and that is still an unknown), we will consider additional options of honoring our Class of 2020.
Outlined below are highlights of activities to come over the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you and your families attend these events while practicing the necessary social distancing.
Senior Cruise - May 19-21, 2020 (2-5 pm)
First, I would like to invite you to a Senior Cruise! This event will be an opportunity for our students and their parents to celebrate as an alternative to the traditional Fraser Senior Walk.
We have broken the cruise into three days for everyone’s safety and in order to follow proper social distancing guidelines. We will have stations set up around FHS for you to cruise to in your car. The highlight of the cruise will be picking up caps and gowns, receiving honor cords and awards, and taking family pictures. We are also asking that students turn in their district-issued MacBook and any uniforms, textbooks or instruments at this event. Attached you will find a flyer with more information about the Senior Cruise.
Graduation - June 6, 2020
As of right now, we do not expect social distancing guidelines to change before our originally scheduled commencement ceremony. We also do not want to keep postponing this event with the hope that the social distancing guidelines will be lifted by then. We want to honor our seniors and give them the recognition and closure they deserve. That is why we will move forward with holding an event on June 6 in two parts.
The first part will be broadcast via a GoToMeeting webinar and include the traditional speeches from myself, Superintendent Carrie Wozniak, Board of Education President Laura Edghill and your class valedictorian, salutatorians and class president. We will also call all of the seniors’ names in alphabetical order. We will share the registration and viewing instructions at a later date.
Part Two - 7 pm
The second part will be what we will call our Fraser Drive-thru Graduation Ceremony held on the football field at Fraser High School. This will be a new experience for us all, but it will allow for the Class of 2020 to come back home to FHS and receive their diploma. We will continue to follow the Governor's recommendations for social distancing, but we will do our best to make this a personal experience for each senior.
We ask that someone other than the senior drives, so the senior can wear their cap and gown, receive their diploma, have their picture taken, and turn their graduation tassel. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing additional details along with the guidelines for vehicle participation. Below are a few highlights of this unique event:
Students will be able to decorate their cars.
Students will receive their Diploma Cover and Diploma that day.
Student Names will be highlighted on the ScoreBoard.
Students will have photo opportunities.
We will have special student performances.
We will be providing all families with a video recording of the event.
We are working with our leadership team, Board of Education and Student Council to make these memorable events for all of our seniors and their families. Throughout this time, I have stressed that we are in this together. I look forward to the opportunity for us to come together at our home - Fraser High School - to celebrate the Class of 2020.
Respectfully,
Mr. Ryan D. Sines, Ed.S.Fraser High School Principal
