Homework
I am changing up our homework this week and this will continue. Many of the students are not getting to Lexia during the day. This is for several reasons. It may be the increased one-on-one reading time they get by coming to my class and/or it may be, for the older students, that we are working on Read180/System 44 in class instead. Either way, I would like to see increased time on Lexia.
So here is homework for this week:
20 min/night of Lexia (Monday and Tuesday for sure - the rest of the week would be great but not required as it is the holiday)
Math homework is to practice multiplication facts for 3rd - 5th graders. There are many games online that could be used. Flashcards can be purchased at the dollar store. Games can be found on the internet using cards and dice. Have fun with it!
Reading
Thanksgiving stories are the focus this week. Mash the Potatoes for our younger ones and Spare the Turkey for the 3rd graders. Our older students will begin their study of book excerpts from Bud, Not Buddy which is set during the Depression. This is a great connection for our 5th graders as they are currently studying how people help in times of need. They will be learning about the Depression during this study as well.
Math
Students continue to work hard on various levels of multiplication from the first time introduction of equal groups to constructing arrays, fact families, multiples, factors, prime numbers, and multiplying larger numbers. There is lots of number work going along as well as applying these new skills to every day word problems.
Writing
Some fun Thanksgiving writing will be our focus this week.
