B-C-S Fact Sheet #1
Benton-Carroll-Salem School District | August 9, 2019
Providing Clear Communications....
The following will be in place for the 2019--2020 school year per the letter sent to everyone on May 31, 2019
Transportation
*No transportation for any student within roughly 2 miles of our buildings as permitted by state law. See the link below showing the 2 mile zone in yellow.
*No school bus transportation for students in grades 9—12.
*For example, if you have a 5th grader and at 10th grader in your home, we will only transport the 5th grader.
*This allows the school district to cut bus routes for cost savings.
*Transportation will be provided to students attending Penta Career Center; leaving and returning to Oak Harbor High School.
*Letters regarding bus number and pick up times will be mailed to all parents next week.
*Parents are still encouraged to fill out a transportation request form at www.bcssd.com
*Questions should be directed to the Transportation Dept. at (419) 898-6214.
Acorn Alley Child Care Program
*Acorn Alley is cancelled for the entire 2019—2020 school year.

*The pay to participate fee for the entire 2019—2020 school year has increased to $75 Per Sport with a $300 Family Cap.
Fee for Use of Facilities
*Effective 7/1/19, there is a new District Property Use Fee charged to all non-school sponsored activities including biddy athletics and travel teams. The fee will be $10 per participant, per activity (as determined by the Superintendent). All groups will be required to complete a Facilities Use Request (to be submitted to the AD or Principal) available at http://www.bcssd.com/images/DistrictForms/Facilities_Use_Permit_Rev._5.19_1.pdf
Fee for Trips
*There will be a fee for field trips and extra activity trips billed to clubs, principal funds, camp accounts, etc. as follows: $2.44 per mile plus $20/hour.
Rocket Report
*There will be no Sampler newsletter mailed to homes during the 2019—2020 school year. This will be replaced by the weekly Rocket Report sent to emails. If you do not get the Rocket Report and would like to, please email ksprouse@bcssd.com. The Sampler may be restored if the levy passes.
Third Grade Swim Lessons
*There will be no 3rd grade swim lessons for the 2019—2020 school year.
Adult Use of Facilities
*There will be no adult use of the indoor high school track by adults. Adult noon swims and adult use of tennis courts is also cancelled. The use of these facilities will be limited to student use only.
Other Fees
*Lunch Prices increased for the 2019—2020 school year as follows:
R.C. Waters: $2.55
Middle School: $2.80
High School: $3.05
*High School Parking Permits increased to $13 for the 2019—2020 school year.
November 5th Emergency Levy
*B-C-S is on the November 5th ballot for a 3.9 Mill Property Tax to secure our financial future. It would bring in approximately $1.5 Million for operating purposes. These funds are urgently needed due to the devaluation of Davis-Besse in 2018 and the phase out of a PUTPP payment from the state. H.B. 6 helps Davis-Besse but does not fix our financial situation.
*Voting is Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Voter registration ends October 7.
Absentee Voting (Early Voting) begins on October 8, 2019 at the Ottawa County Board of Elections office located at 8444 West SR 163 in Oak Harbor (just west of the Ottawa County Fairground). Voters can show up in person at their office at the following times:
