Letter from Principal Lowe

August 21, 2020

Dear Elton Gregory Families -

Welcome back to a truly unique year. I think the image below pretty well shows how many communities across the country may be feeling. Redmond and the EGMS community are strong and resilient; I am confident that the teamwork we build between the school and our families is going to result in a successful year. Our school team has worked hard this summer to ensure that your student stays connected, academically engaged, and supported during this school year. Our team is excited to reconnect with our students and we are looking forward to an incredible year!

What will my day look like when school starts?

Scheduling at EGMS

Electives

Electives will look a little different this year than they have in the past. Here are some of the new changes:

  • Students will not be able to change their electives. What is on their schedule will be what they will stick to.
  • Students will not have all of the same elective options as we have had in years past

But... why?

When we return to school in a hybrid model, there are tight regulations about cohorts and how many kids can be in certain places safely. In order to follow these regulations and keep students healthy and safe, we will not be able to make exceptions to this list.

AVID School-Wide

EGMS is excited to announce that the first 30 minutes of each day with begin with an AVID class this year. This will continue when we are able to come back to the classroom and have in-person instruction. This class will be called zero period on the student schedule. We will cover various activities, such as navigating technology, online etiquette, building community with teachers and peers, and much more. Please make sure students are logged in every morning at 9 to kick off their day!

Still need a chromebook? Internet hotspot?

We are here to help! Please contact Troy Capps, EGMS Dean of Students. troy.capps@redmondschools.org Mr. Capps can help you with most of your tech needs.

No Lockers This Year

When students are able to return to our hybrid in-class schedule, we will not be able to utilize lockers due to health regulations. Please make sure your student has a backpack that will hold their binder and all of their supplies this year. They will be able to bring them to the classroom.

Last Year's Locker Contents

If you're still missing contents from your locker last year, please contact our Dean of Students- Troy Capps troy.capps@redmondschools.org to arrange a pick up.

TO DO: Student Verification

If you have not already completed returning student verification, please do so as soon as possible using this link: 20/21 student verification This must be done whether or not you choose to be in Comprehensive Distance Learning or Full-Time Online. This ensures we have the most up to date information in our system.

Hey everyone!

I hope you all are having a restful and fun summer with lots of time with family and outdoor time! I have been trying to get outside as much as possible and have gone on several local backpacking trips and day hikes with my husband and close friends. I've also been spending a lot of time working in my garden and growing my own veggies. It is my first year growing a vegetable garden and I'm pretty excited about the results. Even though we will be virtual when we come back to school, I am really excited to see everyone online! Missing all of you and looking forward to this school year!
