Why is it important EVERYONE complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application?
One in six, or 13 million children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food.
Every Monday morning, school nutrition professionals witness this hunger on some of the faces of students eagerly waiting in line for a school breakfast after a long weekend without enough to eat. This is why school meals are so important. It is our professional obligation and pleasure to serve children with the nutritious meals needed to help them succeed academically. It is also our responsibility to help parents/guardians secure school meals with applications for eligibility.
This application also serves as a tool to assess how much federal funding your child's school will receive under Title I. It is important that even if you do not think you qualify, still complete the application to help your child receive federal funding. Please use the link below to complete the application.

Jones County Reopening Plan Fall 2020
System Update 8.3.20
08/03/2020 - Jones County Virtual Academy Application Reopening
The Jones County Virtual Academy will reopen the application for the Fall 2020 Semester. There is a limited number of remaining seats in some grade levels, and applications will be reviewed on a first-come first-served basis according to the time stamp of the application submission. The JCVA application will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 and close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
Applicants must complete the registration process by attending a virtual registration meeting and completing registration documents after the meeting. Registration meetings are scheduled for August 6 at 7:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m., or 7:00 p.m. A link to the registration meetings will be emailed Wednesday evening to the email address applicants list in the application. Registration documents must be completed and submitted by 12:00 noon, August 7. Failure to attend one of the registration meetings and submit registration documents by the due date will void the student’s application.
Registration qualifies a student but does not guarantee a seat in the Jones County Virtual Academy program. Available seats will be filled based upon completion of the registration process and the order in which applications were received. Parents will be notified by email of their student’s enrollment status by 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 10.
The application can be found on the Jones County Virtual Academy website by clicking here.
JCSS Reopening Plan
The following plan is based on information within Georgia’s Path to Recovery for K-12 Schools. Georgia’s Path to Recovery for K-12 Schools focuses heavily on the health and physical requirements necessary for reopening school buildings. This plan is not intended to be an exhaustive or detailed list of expectations, but it will provide an overview of the anticipated guidance for re-entry to the traditional setting on August 17, 2020. This plan is built upon the guidance and recommendations of health officials; it is strongly aligned to the reopening guidelines that have been provided by our state and federal leaders; and it’s designed to help prioritize the health and safety of students and staff as we open school buildings and deliver instruction for the 2020-2021 school year.
We know how important it is for our students and staff to come back to school. We also understand that we are in the midst of a pandemic and realize that some parents will choose the Virtual Learning Option. Both the traditional and virtual models are extremely important to our school district, and we will keep the safety of our students and staff at the forefront of all our decisions. The partnership between the school and the parent is more important now than ever before. By supporting one another and increasing communication, we can make the best decisions for our students, staff, and community.
Jones County Virtual Academy
Jones County Virtual Academy is excited to announce Accelerate Education has been selected as the curriculum resource for JCVA students in grades K-8.
- For elementary school JCVA students, the school system is planning to utilize Accelerate Education and instructional support from JCSS teachers.
- Students will be enrolled in self-paced, on grade-level, online classes through an online learning management system called Accelerate Education.
- Students in grades K-5 will need significant assistance from a parent/adult in the home (approximately 2-3 hours each day of adult assistance). This adult will become the student’s Learning Coach.
- K-5 Learning Coaches should watch this brief video(link below) about the role of the Learning Coach and the Accelerate Education model of delivering instruction. The Learning Coach website can be accessed here. Learning Coaches should access the Learning Coach website and review the Getting Started resources to prepare for the upcoming school year.
- While a JCSS teacher will provide some support to K-5 students whose parents choose the JCVA option, the teacher assigned may not be the teacher that the student would have if enrolled in in-person instruction or a teacher assigned to your child’s school.
- For middle school JCVA students, the school system is planning to utilize Accelerate Education and instructional support from JCSS teachers.
