Good Morning Memorial Families,
I hope that parent-teacher conferences were helpful to all of you and that you were able to leave with a stronger sense of how your child has settled in and adjusted to the new school year. I cannot even tell you how energized I was seeing so many parents walk into the building for the first time in almost two years. We miss having so many people buzzing about the school. If you are interested in helping out in your child’s classroom, please connect with their classroom teacher to see how you might best support them.
Tonight, Janice Gallagher (Clough Elementary principal) and I will be presenting this year’s elementary school improvement plans to the School Committee for approval. If you watch, you will notice a theme in our goals that focus on supporting all of our students as individuals as we move forward from the pandemic. One of my most deeply held beliefs in education is that all students can learn, and that it is up to us as educators to figure out what each child needs and provide the opportunity for each child to grow and shine. I believe in giving every child what he/she needs when they need it, no matter what the child’s label is. Every child deserves to receive instruction that both engages and challenges them and they deserve to be supported through their learning. Our school improvement plan focuses on building strong systems of support for all students academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. This means that all members of our school community are actively working to determine how to best meet your child’s individual needs and that we will deliver any type of support we determine is necessary for your child to access grade appropriate learning. New online applications such as Thrively will help us to get to know your child’s personal strengths so that we can more closely tailor our instruction to match their learning profile. Our new math curriculum, Bridges, provides more opportunities for in depth exploration of mathematical concepts and discourse in a variety of ways to reach more of our learners and develop stronger problem solvers. Developing common school-wide language and social norms for everyone allows for students to feel safe in their school environment. These are just a few of the highlights from the plan. Once the School Improvement Plan is approved, I will share it with all of you through this newsletter as well as on the website.
Thanks to Lisa Ryan, we will be offering a COVID vaccine clinic to our elementary school students on Tuesday, November 23rd from 4:00pm-8:00pm in the Memorial cafeteria. More information coming as soon as we have it.
Have a wonderful week, everyone!
Warmly,
Wendy
