Letter from the Principal

Greetings Wildcat Families!

It is hard to believe we are days away from the end of 2021-22 school year! Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child’s full return to school this year was successful. While the year has reminded us to greet each day with an open-mind and flexibility, we have seen our students demonstrate gains academically and socially. Our students re-established school routines, made new friends, practiced how to be kind, respectful, and how to show Wildcat P.R.I.D.E. Our teachers have immersed our students in a rich integration of STEM lessons and experiences as we continue with our state STEM recertification process. There have been so many great things that have happened this year, I invite you take a moment to reflect with your child on highlights from their year.

As the last day of school approaches, we recognize there are many families that will be moving during the summer and not returning to Woodland Elementary School. Knowing which students will not be returning will be very important information for us as we are planning for next school year. If your family will not be returning, please complete the attached withdrawal form before the last day of school. You may return a physical copy of this form, with a copy of your ID, to the front desk or via email to Ms. Cumberbatch, at cumberbatch@fultonschools.org.

As a result of the Child Nutrition Waivers from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), all Fulton County Students received breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE during the 2021-2022 school year. All children, regardless of school enrollment or meal eligibility status, received free meals.

With the extension of USDA waivers expiring on June 30, 2022, students will be charged for their meals based on their previous meal eligibility status (free, reduced, or full pay). If there is an interruption in benefits or the household did not apply during the 2021-2022 school year, the household will be responsible for payment of meals until the new application is approved. To help assure continuation of benefits, households must complete an online application by May 26, 2022, at www.fulton.schoollunchapp.com.

The Free & Reduced-Price Meal Benefits Program is a part of the National Child Nutrition Program. This program makes Free or Reduced priced meals available to qualifying households. Qualifications are based on the gross income of all household members and the number of persons living in the house. School Year 2022-2023 Free & Reduced Meal Applications will be available online beginning August 1, 2022. Only one application is needed per household and a new application must be completed every school year.

We remain cognizant of a rise in COVID cases and want to continue to practice safety measures for our school community.

· If your child is ill, do not send them to school. Students who vomit or a have a fever will need to be vomit-free and fever-free for 24-hours, without the aid of medication before returning to school.

· Parents/guardians interested in having their child receive the COVID-19 vaccine can find information on the GaDPH Website.

· Please follow public health guidelines and report any positive COVID-19 cases to the parent portal.

It is the time of year in which we see an increase in inappropriate school behaviors, at school and on buses. We will consistently follow the Fulton County Schools Student Code of Conduct and provide discipline as outlined, which may include in or out of school suspension.

Please have a conversation with your child about making good choices and demonstrating appropriate school behavior. We always encourage our students to speak and behave with kindness, respect, and demonstrate Wildcat P.R.I.D.E.


As we near the end of the school year, please be mindful of school bus stop safety with your child and others at the bus stop for pick-up and drop-off. Remind your child to follow the directions of the driver and practice safe behaviors, at all times.

Students are reminded to refrain from running around, hiding, and engaging in horse-play at the bus stop.

Additionally, our buses afternoon drop-off schedule remains consistent. Please ensure you are present to receive or meet your child at the bus stop.


Student devices will be collected at the end of the school year; this includes all devices assigned to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Device collections will begin on May 16th. Students attending summer school will keep their device until the end of summer school.


With our warmer temperatures and spring weather transition, please be mindful of appropriate dress code attire. We are a uniform school and consistency in our uniform is expected. Please refrain from dressing your child in tank tops or spaghetti strap tops, short short-pants, croc shoes, open-toe slides, distressed jeans, and other non-uniform items. Please see the details below about the uniform expectations:

· All students wear the Woodland uniform.

· Shirts: Collared shirt, long-sleeved or short, with or without the Woodland logo. Colors are red, white, or navy. Turtlenecks are acceptable.

Pants: Navy or khaki shorts or pants. Shorts should be mid-thigh to knee length. Pleated or elastic waist pants are acceptable. Jeans, sweatpants, or tight leggings are not acceptable. Girls may also wear navy or khaki skirts, skorts, or jumpers, provided they are mid-thigh to knee length. During colder months, tights of uniform color (red, white, or navy blue) may be worn underneath skirts.

· Shoes & Socks: Closed-toed athletic (sneakers) with red, white, or navy socks will ensure that students are properly dressed for P.E. and recess. Shoes should be in neutral colors such as black, brown, or white. Small colored accents are acceptable but should not be the primary color of the shoe.

· PE: Athletic style shoes are required for PE. Students will not be allowed to participate in PE if they are not wearing appropriate shoes and their grade may be negatively impacted for failure to participate.

· Accessories: Purses, caps, headphones, etc. are not permitted at school unless authorized by principal or teacher.


Is your child missing several clothing items, water bottles, lunch boxes, hats? Please encourage your child to check the Lost & Found area located by the cafeteria and gym, OR the playground area for missing or forgotten items. Items not claimed will be donated at the end of the school year.

Fulton County Schools (FCS) continues to promote our school safety campaigning leveraging the district’s anonymous tip line and Text4Help anonymous reporting line. The S.HA.R.E. Tip Line, which stands for “See it, Hear it, And Report it Every time,” is an anonymous reporting tool where students, parents, staff and others can confidentially report matters threatening the safety of students. The tip line is specifically designed to address multiple areas of concern, including weapons, violence, bullying, suicide, self-harm, drugs, and vandalism. All reports are kept strictly confidential and may be reported 24 hours a day, 365 days/year.


A trained clinic aide is available to care for injured or sick students and to notify parents when pick-up is necessary. If a child is not well enough to return to class within 20 minutes of entering the clinic, the parent or guardian will be called to check-out the child from the office and take him/her home.

Students should not come to school with a fever, cloudy discharge from the nose, goopy red eyes, earache, or stomach/intestinal distress. Children must be free of vomiting and/or fever for 24-hours before returning to school as per the American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines. When returning to school following an absence due to illness, parents must send a written, signed note, explaining the illness and provide the number of days and dates the child was absent. This is necessary for State Attendance Reports.

If an illness or injury requires immediate medical attention, 911 will be called.

Please be sure the school has your current phone number/contact information as well as updated emergency contact information so you can be reached in case of an emergency.


Our Student Code of Conduct is available on our county website (click here for electronic copy). All parents are asked to acknowledge receipt through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please visit the Infinite Campus Parent Portal website to sign-off on this yearly requirement or for more information on accessing the Parent Portal. Hard copies of the Code of Conduct are available in our front office for interested parents.


Just a reminder that our morning carpool closes at 7:37 each morning, please plan accordingly. Late arrivals will need to park and walk students the front door.

In afternoon carpool, please make sure that your child is picked up by 2:45PM.

Summer Learning

Summer School is an opportunity for students to accelerate or recover credits during the time between school years. Face-to-face and virtual offerings exist, and often provide students with a broader array of options than those available during the school year.

Elementary Summer Learning (Grades 1-5) is an opportunity for students to receive targeted support in reading and mathematics. The district’s Elementary Summer Learning program is free. Acceleration courses require tuition.

Nutrition: Breakfast and lunch will be served for all face-to-face summer school students.

Students with IEPs who will require special education transportation per his/her IEP should register no later than April 27 to ensure the child’s route is in place for the first day of summer school.

Students who have an FCS laptop will keep their device until the end of summer learning.

Parent Volunteers

Click here to sign up to help out at school. Woodland Elementary School is ready to welcome Parents back into the building for volunteering. The first opportunity we have is to assist teachers by making copies Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Covid Updates


Please continue to check our Fulton County website for updated information on district protocols and practices. The district’s webpage link is as follows, https://www.fultonschools.org/coronavirus. The webpage also has information from the Department of Public Health, the weekly epidemiology report, the mitigation matrix, and a wealth of additional information.

If you need to report a positive COVID case for your student please utilize the Fulton County Schools portal at the following link, COVID-19 Reporting Portal . Once cases are recorded and investigated by the district’s student health services, the local school then receives information to provide to our classes and parents, as needed. Student COVID-19 report portal updates

The Fulton County Board of Health and Fulton County Schools have developed an on-line portal for FCS parents/guardians to report student COVID-19 related cases. The portal has been updated for Spanish, Korean, and Chinese. FCS parent/guardians will find a dropdown at the top right for translations. www.fultonschools.org/ReportCOVID Please make a report to the FCBOH when your student is COVID-19 positive, has a pending COVID-19 test result, or has been in direct contact with a COVID-19 positive person. Also, please use this resource for official reporting rather than alerting the school and/or teacher. If you must engage the school/teacher, please do so after you have made an official report to the FCBOH. Lastly, to ensure the protection of our school community, please do not allow your child to attend school or school-sponsored events when he/she is ill and/or has any of the above COVID-19 concern.
