EARLY LIFE

Disney was the fourth child out of a family of five children. His dad was from canada (canadian) and his mother was from ohio.

Born in Chicago, Disney grew up on his auncle's farm near Marceline, Missouri, one hundred miles northeast of Kansas City. In later years he recalled the pleasure of growing up on this farm by later using his very well known farm animals in his cartoons.

Walt Disney had a difficult upbringing

He lived with his father elias a restless and unsuccessful carpenter and farmer, was a stern religious fundamentalist who readily disciplined his children by denieing toys, games ,and sporting equipment. This had a big impact on his sons determination to look on the sunny side of life.Due to his family moving often because of his dads work, disneys education ended at the 9th grade and joined an art class due to his good drawing skills.

GETTING INVOLVED

From his beginnings as a young commercial artist experimenting with cartoon animation during the silent film era walt disney developed into a visionary pioneer of the entertainment industry. First in animated cartoons, then in feature-length films and television and eventually in amusement and theme parks, Disney's creative output became the standard for family entertainment in modern America. He became one of the entertainment industry's most beloved icons.Walt Disney also worked with another young artist, Ub Iwerks, he formed his first small cartoon-film production company in the early 1920s.

CHOICES AND RESULTS

Disney moved to Hollywood in 1923. His first successful creation was Mickey Mouse, who debuted in the first fully synchronized sound cartoon, "Steamboat Willie," with Disney

supplying the voice for the mouse.Mickey Mouse came to life in 1928, first as an airplane pilot, then as an adventurer and a sort of pirate-character.Soon, joined by a girlfriend Minnie the mouse.Their popularity led to the invention of Donald Duck, Pluto, and Goofy. As Mickey, appeared in many popular cartoons that were to stimulate America's imagination and create a vast marketing empire. Toys, dolls, games, watches, clothing, comic books, toothbrushes, T-shirts, furnishings, and even automobile decorations feature the character. But Disney's creations were far more than the "invention" of Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Goofy, and other characters.Along with brief animated advertising films, the company produced a series of animated fairy tales, "Alice in Cartoonland." Also "Oswald the Rabbit" series, "Snow White," "Pinocchio," and "Dumbo.."

AFTERMATH

In the 1940s, despite his many successes, Disney produced a series of financial failures, notably "Fantasia," a very different animated film set to classical music and later regarded as a classic. Disney was devastated when "Fantasia" did poorly at the box office and when half his artists went on strike to protest his dictatorial style. Following world war 2, disney made many films combining live-action and cartoons witch won five Academy Awards in 1964.By the mid-1950s disney had begun to produce television shows and at the same time created his famous parks. Disneyland was such a success that later the Disney company opened another theme park, Disney World, near Orlando, Florida. His imagination tapped minds of kids of all ages, after his death from lung cancer in 1966.
