Hello Sachems! Welcome Back!
I hope all of you had a wonderful long weekend! This week begins the second half of Quarter I and it is important to reassess your goals to determine are you on track for excellence. Remember, you made a commitment to be STRONG in all of your classes and your grades should always reflect that. I am so proud of what you have accomplished and look forward to seeing you FinishSTRONG as we close Quarter I in just a few short weeks! Let’s get ready for a great week! Here we go!
A special note of thanks and appreciation...
- Thank you for the Student Council Members for helping with the Annual Town Meeting that will take place on Monday evening. Your role as counters is greatly appreciated. Additionally, thank you to the many student council members who will provide child care on Monday evening so parents/guardians could attend the very important Town Meeting.
- Thank you to the MHS Student Council for an outstanding job with the planning of the Annual Lock-In on Saturday night. The event was awesome. Well done!
- To the members of our school community who gave their time to help with the Oak Point Yard Sale last weekend! Your help was greatly appreciated.
- Congratulations to all of the students who were named StudentSTRONG this week at our special recognition ceremony.
Character Strong - Advisory Lesson #4 - Habit Development
Our next Advisory for Character Strong will take place on Monday, October 7, 2019. As we continue with our monthly focus on the character trait of PATIENCE, your advisory this week will focus on the development of creating good and healthy habits. Get ready for a great advisory and the sharing of the Character Dares for this week!
Quarter I Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences - October
- Appointment Sheets for Parent-Teacher Conferences was distributed to all students on Monday, September 30, 2019. Students, be sure to make your appointments early with your teachers!
- Progress Reports for Quarter I will be issued to all students on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 during a special advisory on at 1:40pm.
- Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 5:30 – 8:00pm and Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 4:00 – 6:00pm.
Professional Development Day - Mark Your Calendars - Friday, October 11, 2019
Please know that on Friday, October 11, 2019 is a half-day for professional development for the school district. Dismissal for the high school is 11:30am.
Mark Your Calendar - PSAT Exam - Wednesday, October 16, 2019
- Next Wednesday, October 16, 2019 our freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT examination on Wednesday of next week. I want all of our students to try their absolute best on this exam! This exam will allow for our juniors testing to be named potential candidates to be a National Merit Scholar and I want to celebrate when so many of you are named National Merit Scholars.
- More information to come for this very important day. Also, our senior class will engage in special college and career programming with the Guidance Department.
Class of 2024 Visit to MHS - Friday, October 18, 2019
The Class of 2024 will be visiting MHS on Friday, October 18th to help our 8th graders make the best choice about their high school experience. We want that choice to be Middleborough High School. Let’s prepare to roll out the welcome mat to our future Sachems! A special thanks to the many student leaders who will serve as tour guides for the morning. We could not make this happen without you!
The Science Cafe - Thursday, October 10 - 2:15pm
- The MHS Science National Honor Society and YESS Club will be hosting their next Science Café on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 2:15pm in the Career Center. The topic of the Café this month is “Science Through Astrophotography” We welcome Jaimie Kern from Bridgewater State University Observatory.

Senior Portraits Opportunity - Lifetouch Photography - Wednesday, October 9
Attention all Seniors! If you have not had your senior portraits done for the yearbook now here is your chance. Our school photographer, Lifetouch Photography will be at MHS on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 beginning at 2:00pm. Please see Mrs. Holmgren in the main office to arrange for your appointment.
Middleborough Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC)
The SEPAC will be hosting a very special event at the Nichols Middle School on Thursday, October 10 at 6:00pm. The author of “Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid” will be speaking. Contact SEPAC at info@msepac.org
Class of 2020 – YEARBOOK INFORMATION AND SENIOR PICTURES
- Seniors, please make sure you are checking your email for the information regarding senior pictures and senior photos. Everything will be done electronically, including the senior favorites and the senior superlatives.
- The deadline for submitting your senior portrait and your baby picture is October 25, 2019.
- Yearbooks will be available for online orders shortly, so please look out for a flyer from Jostens, which will be mailed home soon. This will contain online ordering information, in addition to the tiered pricing. The earlier your order your yearbook, the less expensive it will be.

Student Council Meeting - Wednesday, October 9 - 7:00pm
The next meeting of the full Student Council will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 7:00pm in the cafeteria. All members must attend. See you at the meeting.
Homecoming 2019 - Mark Your Calendar
- Homecoming 2019 will begin next week with a ton of exciting plans for you to celebrate Sachem Pride! The Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 7:00 – 10:00pm in the MHS Gym. If you would like to bring a guest from another school you may do so by taking a permission slip from the main office. ALL permission slips are due back to the main office NO LATER than Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Please see Mrs. Jameson with any questions or concerns.
- The Homecoming Dinner will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 6:00pm in the MHS Cafeteria. The homecoming dinner will sponsor the Jimmy Fund. Our school and community has been touched so much with the unfortunate suffering of cancer. We hope our community will come together to raise money for this important cause. More to come!
Class of 2023 - Kick-off and Bonding Event - Wednesday, October 9
The Class of 2023 will be hosting their first class bonding event on Wednesday, October 10, 2019 from 4:30 – 6:15pm in the front of the school. Bring a white t-shirt as your class will be tie-dye shirt for the homecoming float. You do not want to miss this. Please see Olivia Austin or any class officer with questions.
October is White Cane Awareness Month
Middleborough High School will be recognizing White Cane Month, which is a symbol of independence and blindness. The white cane allows an individual who is legally blind to travel independently. Be sure to check out the literature around the school as we recognize this important cause.
Unified Basketball Season Opener - Wednesday, October 9, 2019
The Middleborough High School Unified Basketball Team will host their home opener on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 3:00pm in the MHS Gym. You do not want to miss out on this game! We welcome Special Olympics of Massachusetts to our school to formally present our school with our National Banner for our commitment to inclusion. Be there on Wednesday at 3:00pm. Get excited about being Fans in the Stand!
