The Pizitz Post
for Students, Parents & Families - March 20, 2023
Our Students' Creativity on Display
Last week, our theatre department had the opportunity to showcase their work in a spring show. Parents, families, students, teachers and community members came out to support the show, and our students did an incredible job! Whether in the spotlight or behind the scenes, students were eager to support one another and share their talents with the school. We appreciate their dedication to excellence, and their willingness to showcase their work in front of our school community.
Before the show, the cast and crew determined that they would sell tickets to students for Friday's show as a fundraiser for our schoolwide philanthropy this year, The Miracle League. We are proud to share that they will be able to make a wonderful donation to an organization that we love. In addition, many student groups will be playing against Miracle League's competitive team this spring. If you have a chance, go out and support our students as they compete at Wald Park on the following dates this spring: April 6, April 14, April 27, May 4, May 11, and May 18. All games begin at 6:00p.m.
The Pizitz Band
The spring has been a busy season for our band students. The Pizitz Concert & Symphonic Bands performed at the Alabama Bandmasters Association Music Performance Assessment on Monday, March 13 at VHHS. Both bands scored all superior ratings on stage and in sightreading, the highest possible scores. Congratulations to all our Concert & Symphonic Band students!
The Pizitz Symphonic Band will travel to Atlanta on Wednesday, March 22 to perform at the Music For All Southeastern Regional Concert Band Festival at Georgia State University. To receive an invitation to this event is a recognition in itself, and Pizitz is one of two bands from outside the state of Georgia. Best wishes to our Symphonic Band members!
Thank you, Mrs. Seng and Mrs. Chambless, for all the ways you work to set high expectations, foster determination, and encourage musicality in the band program at Pizitz.
Report Cards
On Friday, report card grades were finalized for the third nine weeks in Powerschool. Although we do not send home a paper copy of report cards, parents are able to check his/her child's grades at any time. You can access student grades through the parent portal here or by downloading the application on your phone here. If, for some reason, you are unable to access your child's grades, please reach out to our registrar, Mary Watson, at watsonme@vhcs.us.
Student grades are a communication tool to show a student's level of mastery toward grade-level standards. When looking at assignments, you can also view the standard being measured through that assigment. Looking closely at these assignments and standards can help to have more meaningful conversations with your child about his/her learning.
Learning Opportunity for Parents
If you have a child who currently receives services for special education, we would love for you to join us in the Pizitz library on Wednesday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Sandy Ritchey, our director of exceptional education, will be joining us to share more about the services provided in Vestavia Hills City Schools. She and her team are looking forward to sharing information with parents to ensure that everyone knows about our programming, and the systems put in place across the district to support our students' needs. We would love to have you join us for this conversation.
Here is a link to the invitation from the exceptional education team.

Shout Out to our Middle School Fishing Team!
Our middle school fishing team scored big in their tournament on Neely Henry Lake last week! We received 2nd place in team standings. We tied for first, but the tie breaker was based on the biggest fish weight so we were pushed into 2nd by a small margin. Our boat carrying Pizitz students, Sims Chapman and Harrison Coleman, received 1st place boat.
So proud of these boys and their captains:
