Where We've Been / 2nd Quarter Wrap Up
Can you believe a 1/2 a year is behind us! It flew by, as did the holidays. Report cards have been sent, and we are starting on 3rd Quarter. Here's a quick peak of what we covered:
Science: 5.L.2.3 Interactions Among Living Organisms, 5.L.2.2 Parts of a Food Chain & Decomposition, 5.L.2.1 Water & Land Ecosystems
Social Studies: Focus American Revolution & Novel study Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson
Math: NF.1 Add and Subtract Fractions with unlike denominators and mixed numbers,
NF.2 Word Problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions, NF.3 Word Problems involving division of mixed numbers or fractions, NF.4a Multiply fractions and fractions times a whole number, NF.7a,b,c divide fractions and word problems

Where We're Going / 3rd Quarter
Science: 5.L.1 Understand how structures and systems of organisms (to include the human body) perform functions necessary for life. 5L1.1 Explain why some organisms are capable of surviving as a single cell while others require many cells that are specialized to survive, 5L1.2 Compare the major systems of the human body (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular) in terms of their functions necessary for life. 5.L.3 Understand why organisms differ from or are similar to their parents based on the characteristics of the organism. 5L3.1 Explain why organisms differ from or are similar to their parents based on the characteristics of the organism, 5.L.3.2 Give examples of likenesses that are inherited and some are not.
Social Studies: Continue & wrap up American Revolution and begin Civil War Unit. Novel study for 3rd quarter Soldiers Heart & Bull Run.
Math: 5.MD.1 Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems, 5. MD. 2 Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, ΒΌ, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots, 5.G.3 Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category, 5.G.4 Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.

PBIS Incentive Day
- Children are required to have a signed permission slip to bring/use technology on Tech Day, February 18th.
- Permission slips will be passed out Monday to qualifying students.
- New incentive goal= 100 tickets

Reminders
Now that we are 1/2 way through the year, there may be some replenishing of supplies needed. Please check to make sure your child has the following:
- 3 ring binder
- pencil pouch w at least 3 sharpened pencils, highlighter, glue, scissors, pen, colored pencils or crayons.
- agenda (HW should be recorded in this daily, checked and signed off nightly.)
- dividers or folders for the following: homework, social studies, science, math, LA (there graded items should be stored here).
- noetbooks for the following: math, social studies, science, LA. *Some students still have room in there current notebooks others do not, please check with your child.
