Jordan/Jackson News You Can Use
December 22, 2022
From all of us here at Jordan/Jackson to all of you, enjoy time with friends and family during our winter break. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!
2nd ANNUAL PARADE FLOAT CHALLENGE!
Our 2nd Annual Parade Float Challenge took place throughout the month of November in our Innovation Station. Miss Keller. 4th grade teacher and Building Technology Assistant, challenged all classes at J/J to create a themed parade float out of Legos and to make it move down our parade route using our robotic Cubelets. Every class accepted the challenge!
The students voted for the float they felt was the most creative. After 400+ student votes were entered, the winning float was a spinning cup of Cinnamon Swirl dolloped with whipped cream in a smiling mug. It was created by Emily L, Abby G, and Sydney O, fourth graders in Mrs. Norige's class. To read more about this event, click on the following link: Annual Parade Float Challenge

Coding in the Cafeteria!
The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. Which is held annually, typically in December, in recognition of the birthday (December 9, 1906) of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, using fun tutorials to show that anybody can learn the basics.

Hello from the School Nurses at Jordan Jackson!
While the holidays bring us the time to celebrate and enjoy the company of family and friends, it is also the time of year notorious for winter illnesses. We have started to see an uptick in illness among our Jordan/Jackson community. COVID, Flu, other viral illnesses, and the dreaded stomach bug have arrived. Our goal is for students to remain in school; however, there are some instances where your child may be dismissed due to illness or should not come to school. Please see below for further information or review the Mansfield Public Schools Health Services Page on when to contact the School Nurse or when to stay home guidelines.
When to keep your child home:
A positive COVID test. Please contact us for further guidance on isolation and when to return to school.
A temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher. Students should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever reducing medications (Tylenol, Motrin etc.), regardless of a negative COVID test.
Vomiting or diarrhea. Students should not return to school for 24 hours after the last episode.
An undiagnosed rash.
Infections such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, ringworm, or impetigo, until they have been on prescribed treatment medication for 24 hours.
Please note that your child will be dismissed from school should a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher develop. Students will also be dismissed from school for episodes of vomiting or diarrhea that occur during school time. Nursing is no longer COVID testing or contact tracing in school. Please contact your child’s primary care provider for further guidance regarding your child’s illness if necessary.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and healthy New Year!
Your Jordan Jackson School Nurse Team,
Aimee Reber RN & Courtney Cogliano RN

RECESS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM STARTING IN JANUARY!
Exciting News! Students at Jordan/Jackson will be able to choose to participate in a Recess Enrichment Program starting January 2023. Clubs have been designed for students as an option to join during their recess period. Each Club will be facilitated by a teacher or staff member and give an opportunity for students to explore new activities, develop new skills and socialize with other peers within a small group. Some of the clubs being offered are book club, basketball, walking club, yoga, Legos, STEM and art, to name a few. Each club will be held once a week for a 6 week period/ session. We will offer three club sessions this school year.
This week, a kick off presentation by faculty and staff was given to all students during their lunch. The program featured a video (below) and highlights of the clubs being held during their specific recess. Students have the opportunity to make their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices until tomorrow afternoon, December 15. Assistant Principal Perreault will send out communication to students and families which club and session they will be offered to participate in. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Perreault at Katherine.Perrreault@mansfieldschools.com.
A HUGE thank you to the following students who helped make this video! Owen V, Colin M, Abby G, Emily L, Leah M, Maggie O, Kate H, Giulianna L, Delaney C, Calvin M, Aishwarya R, Adithi K, Charlotte B, Emma C, Danny Glen S

iCARE Reading Volunteers Needed
Kim Piro is soliciting volunteers this year to serve as classroom readers to benefit her "iCARE” (Introducing Children to Acceptance through Reading and Education) program began 19 years ago to teach students in grades preschool thru 5 about their special needs peers. Books focus on a variety of different disabilities and are available in the school’s library.
If you are interested in volunteering, it can be very rewarding and takes as little as half an hour of your time. If you are an interested parent who would like to read one of these books to a classroom, please call/text Kim Piro at 781-630-0463 or email her at kimpiro20@gmail.com. You can also register to be a reader online at www.thejamiefund.org. Go to the website and click where it asks you to volunteer. Readings will start in January and go through February/March at all three elementary schools.
