Panther Volleyball Excels Both On and Off the Court
The 2018 Panther Volleyball team saw a successful year on the court repeating as South Central Conference Champions and compiling the school's first winning record in several years. The Panthers dominated in the classroom as well. All sixteen members of the Varsity squad earned Academic All-Conference Honors. To earn Academic All-Conference Honors a varsity student-athlete must have at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The team's average GPA was a stellar 3.86!
Members of the Academic All-Conference Varsity Volleyball team are Kaitlyn Anderson, Molly Devin, Tierney Heffron, Kelsey Ryan (seniors), Bailey Caviness, Katie Keitges, Peyton McMurray, Lauren Micetich (juniors), and Reilly Finarty, Jalen Nelson, Marley McKay, Amy Sullivan, Cheyenne Tille, Tara Uitermarkt, Alyssa Vaske, Maggie Wilkins (sophomores).
KMS TAG
Each of ISU's colleges in turn shared their cutting edge technologies with these eager students by way of hands-on activities. Through these activities the participants gain an appreciation of the wide range of future academic and career paths that await them.
KMS Industrial Technology
The KMS Industrial Technology class is beginning their projects. The students have just finished working on their drafting and design units and are beginning projects. The Sixth Grade students are working on hand tool safety and will build a small book shelf. The Seventh Grade students are learning about power tools and power tool safety. The Seventh Graders have a variety of projects that they can choose to make such as a media rack, a train whistle, duck call, deer call, wooden pen, wooden bowl, baseball/softball rack, jewelry box and we added a new project this year a simple bandsaw box that so far has been a great experience for many of our students.
The 8th grade students are beginning an engineering project. The students are doing a bridge building project that requires them to design and build a small model bridge that we will test to see how much weight it can hold. This project is a unique and fun project. Students work with a partner and work to find a design they both like and then work together to build the bridge from small balsa wood sticks. The goal is to have a bridge that can hold at least 20 lbs, but many of the bridges exceed this and some will even hold over 100 lbs.
4th Grade Hour of Code
This past week students in 4th Grade participated in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is a worldwide movement to show kids the world of computer science. The Hour of Code is done during Computer Science Week. Students got on to code.org, and learn about different activities and programs they could write. Many students chose to code their own Dance Party. All of the students had a blast doing this, and were very interested in solving the problems that it presented to them. Students are pictured writing their lines of code during the Hour of Code! Also you can check out Mr. Splavec’s Twitter (@Mr_Splavec) for some videos of students work.

Who Am I?
This month during our Serving Up MyPlate lesson we played a game of What Am I? using deductive reasoning and problem solving skills to determine what the food items is. Am I a vegetable? Am I made from wheat? Do I grow on a tree? Do I sound crunchy when you eat me? Ask your child to set up the game to play as a family at home. Don’t forget to discuss what food group each items belongs in.
