Students in grades 6-8 use College Prepatory Math or CPM for their math curriculum. Here is a link to find out more information: www.cpm.org

They also produce a podcast called "More Math for More People." If you are looking for a new podcast this year, you can find it on Apple, Spotify, and Google.

Hope Packs (formerly known as the Backpack Food Program)

This program is a volunteer based group that provides food to many families in our district every week. They do a packaging session at the high school and then distribute the bags to all 3 schools in our district. If you would like to have your student participate in this program, please call the Unit office at 309-928-9141.

If you would like to volunteer to package the food, the next date is Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. in the BRHS Ag Shop (North Side of the High School in Farmer City). Please contact me for more information. This program would not be possible without the wonderful volunteers that support it.

COVID testing at Kirby Update

Kirby Hospital in Monticello has discontinued their testing program for schools. We appreciate all they have done for us over the last year and a half.

If you need testing options, please contact nurse Dawn Stout. We are also able to sign your student up for the Shield testing at school. In addition to the weekly screening, we are able to use this for diagnostic testing if your student has symptoms.

Cold Weather Reminder

Students enter the building at 8 a.m. and we go outside for recess almost year round. If your child needs cold weather gear, we have extra-please ask your child's teacher or the office.

Athletic and Activity Information:

It is a busy month with both Boys' Basketball teams and Volleyball teams playing. Come out and support our teams at a home game. Our Boosters run a fantastic concession stand with popcorn, candy, pretzels, nachos, and several drink options. It is $3 admission for adults, $2 for seniors, and $1 for students. All guests are required to wear masks per the IDPH guidelines.

Scholastic Bowl will start this month. This activity is open to students in 7-8th grade and 6th grade if needed. If your student in interested in participating, please contact coach Meghan James at mjames@blueridge18.org.

We are also excited to start talking about drama this month. Our directior, Karisa Yeagle, will be collaborating with the high school program to put on a spring show. Please contact her for details on auditions or if your student is interested in learning how to run the backstage/technichal side of a performance. kyeagle@blueridge18.org
