Cool House Tour
We are excited to announce that another one of our homes will be featured in the 2019 Cool House Tour. The Cool House Tour is an annual Austin event in now in it's 23rd year. It is a collaboration of Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) and the Texas Solar Energy Society (TXSES) This year's tour features three remodels, three new homes, an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and a wildlife sanctuary residence (Oak Hill).
Project teams will be on-site to answer your questions. Austin Energy representatives will be at one of the tour stops showcasing energy saving residential offerings, renewable energy and electric vehicles. Purchase tickets online or pick up your guidebook ticket at the Austin Habitat for Humanity ReStore, read more about green building features and map your day in advance. Visit the homes in any order you wish.
Enjoy the tour and thank you for caring about energy use, its personal and social costs and the importance of sustainable development.

Green building (also known as green construction or sustainable building) refers to both a structure and the application of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle: from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.[1]This requires close cooperation of the contractor, the architects, the engineers, and the client at all project stages.[2] The Green Building practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. JMBA has developed details that help create an air tight energy efficient envelope which follows the
"build tight and ventilate right"
methodology. Selecting materials based upon building science and following Joe Lstiburek's Builder's Guide to Hot & Humid Climates as appropriate for each location. If you would like to build something custom designed unique for your lifestyle while incorporating sustainable design principles, Contact JMBA.

McCarty House & Native Garden
Austin Energy Green Building 5-Star Rating
A line of Heritage trees across the front of the property further challenged the design essentially dictating the location of the garage. JMBA used the seemingly limiting requirements to create a private interior natural courtyard by orienting the house 25 degrees north of due east-west which captures the natural breezes on the property and maximized the roof orientation for the 8.8 kW Solar PV system.
