Information for Parents

Parent Expectations

For the 2018-19, Western Boone County Community School Corporation will be utilizing eLearning Days for both planned and inclement weather days. Planned days will be used to provide staff development, whereas inclement weather days will be unscheduled and determined as necessary. For inclement weather eLearning days, parents will still be notified by 6:00 AM. Students will be recorded as present when school work is completed within the designated period of time.

Important Information


Scheduled eLearning Days will occur corporation-wide on the following days:


  • September 26
  • November 28
  • January 30
  • March 20


Prior to the first eLearning day, students will experience eLearning lesson(s) delivered via Canvas, our digital learning management system. For students in grades K-4, the username and password for Canvas will be shared prior to the first eLearning day. Students in grades 5-12 will use the unique username and password that they previously created for their Canvas account.


On scheduled eLearning days, classwork for students in Grades K-12 will be posted online in Canvas the night before an eLearning Day. Teachers will be available via email during designated hours to respond to questions from students and parents. Computer labs will be available on scheduled eLearning days for students who preregister to attend during specified learning hours. Students will have five (5) school days to complete eLearning assignments.


Unscheduled eLearning Days will be utilized in the event of unexpected school closures, such as inclement weather. Parents will be notified through School Messenger of unscheduled eLearning days by 6:00 AM. On unscheduled eLearning days, assignments will be posted in Canvas by 9:00 AM. If school is closed after a two-hour delay was originally scheduled, assignments will be posted by 10:00 AM. Teachers will be available from 9:00-3:00 via email to respond to questions from parents and students. Like scheduled eLearning assignments, students will have five (5) school days to complete eLearning assignments. Computer labs will not be open during unscheduled eLearning days. Elementary computer labs will have posted after-school hours following unscheduled eLearning days.


Computer Lab Availability & Registration

On scheduled eLearning days, staffed computer labs will be open in each elementary school. At Western Boone Jr.-Sr. High School, students will report to the Media Center. Available hours for all three buildings will be from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM and 12:00 PM-2:00 PM. Students must be registered for this service. Elementary-aged students must be signed in and signed out by a parent or guardian.



Following a non-scheduled eLearning day, staffed computer labs will be open in each elementary school for 1 hour after school for 5 days. Students must register for this service. Elementary-aged students must be signed out by a parent or guardian.


Western Boone Jr/Sr High School cafeteria will be open and supervised from 3:00-5:00 PM each Monday – Thursday for students who need to online access to complete assignments.
