Ms. Davis' 1st Grade Happenings!!!
Hello Parents!
We are having another great week in 1st grade! Tomorrow you will receive your child’s mCLASS Literacy Progress Report which is in place of their interim. Please read the cover letter to gain a better understanding of how this new evaluation tool is used. After the cover letter you will see your child’s progress report. At the top of the page you will see a circle with a red, yellow, or green filling (Please do not be alarmed). I ask that you focus on each individual task below the circle, instead of focusing on the color at the top of the page. If the circle is red, that indicates that there is a need in a specific area. Please understand that this does not necessarily mean that your child is in danger of not meeting literacy benchmarks. On the last page there are activities you can do to help your child in their area of need. Conferences will begin after 1st quarter report cards go home at the end of October. Thank you for your understanding, as this is a new process for our school. I look forward to watching your child grow academically throughout the school year.
Next week we will...
- Math: solve addition word problems with sums up to 20, introduce subtraction
- Science: review comparing and measurement and take assessment
- Social Studies: review citizenship and take our “citizens of many communities” assessment
- Literacy: Learn new spelling words, review short vowels and their sounds, introduce daily 5 center: Listening to Stories
- Writing: practice writing complete sentences and use correct punctuation at the end of sentences
