What is suicide?
The action of killing oneself intentionally.
The suicide rate has increased over the years.
In the last 45 years suicide rates have increased by 60% worldwide.
While the rate has increased by 60%
That includes the lives of nearly 40,000 Americans every year.
Now I know that they must have a reason to want to take their lives.
Some of these include bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, depression, drug or alcohol use, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, stressful life issues, or the lose of a loved one are just some of the many reasons.
Both females and males have reasons that they do end up dying by suicide.
In all age groups in the U.S., about 75 to 80 percent of people who die by suicide are male. It's crazy to think that out of the 40,000 americans that take their lives about 30,000-32,000 are men.
These men and women have different ways of leaving the Earth.
Firearms are the most common suicide method for men and for women it is poisoning. Among teens and children, the most common methods are hanging and and jumping.
And among these different ways some people think that the risk for suicide is inherited.
Suicide risk factors such as depression and bipolar illness, tends to run in families. Although someone in your family maybe depressed or has died by suicide does not mean that you will.
Suicide running in your family isn't the only way to know if you or someone else wants to do it.
