Looking to Summer
Coakley Connects
As many of you are aware, we started a middle school summer program last year. It is designed for 5th into 6th and 6th into 7th. It runs Mon-Thursday the month of July and students can do two or four weeks. We sent home some information earlier in the month and wanted to remind folks as spots are starting to fill. The program is low-cost ($25/session) and we have scholarships available. We can also provide transportation. If you would like more information - please see the brochure attached below!
End of Year Events
As we head towards summer we are very excited to offer end of year events - something that has been more of a struggle during the past two years! Most events will be at CMS but some grade levels are looking at field trips as well. All grade levels will be sending home student contracts within the next couple of weeks for students and parents to sign. Unstructured events and those that take place off-property require a good deal of responsibility and safe behaviors. We hope these events will help students stay focused and engage in those appropriate behaviors throughout these last two months.
Grade 8 parents - I will sending out our end of year dates for your calendar today.
Fine Arts Festival 2022
The Norwood Public Schools’ will be hosting its 23th Annual Fine Arts Festival on Saturday, April 30th from 10am-2pm at the Norwood High School. The festival is a celebration of the award winning Norwood Public Schools Fine Arts program. The public is invited to view the visual arts displays and student television exhibits as well as enjoy performances by NPS music ensembles and the NHS Drama Troupe. In addition, the Fine Art parent booster groups will be selling items to support the Arts in the Norwood Public Schools. This festival is free and will be located at Norwood High School, 245 Nichols Street, Norwood, MA.

2022 Virtual Summer Digital Wellbeing Workshop for Girls!
The Youth, Media & Wellbeing Research Lab and the Computer Science Department at Wellesley College are hosting a FREE virtual summer workshop for middle school girls about designing healthier social media experiences. We will be offering small and whole group online activities to promote reflection and STEM collaboration with Wellesley College students as co-facilitators.
We are proud that this summer marks the workshop's 4th year serving the Norwood Public School Community. Coakley students will continue to receive priority placement - otherwise, enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. Since workshop themes change from year to year, past workshop participants are welcome to join again! Several Coakley alums have even gone on to join the workshop's Youth Advisory Board!
The workshop will be completely remote through Zoom on Monday-Friday, July 11-15, 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. EST. The workshop is open to girls in any US region who will be rising 6th, 7th, or 8th graders. Signing up by May 1 is highly recommended. Questions? Email Alyssa at youthmediawellbeing@wcwonline.org. Absence, Tardy, Dismissal Process
Absence Process
As we head into the winter season, I wanted to clarify how to call your child in for an Absence, tardy, or for dismissal. I will also leave this info at the bottom of all future newsletters for easy referral.
If you need to call your child in absent or tardy, please call the student absent line: 781-762-7880 and press #1. Please state your child's first and last name, the date, and the reason for the absence/tardy (sick, appointment, etc)
If your child needs to be dismissed, have your child bring a note from you to school, come to the main office in the morning and fill out a dismissal slip.
