LIBRARY MARCH MADNESS
Cellphones, Social Media- Real Talk
In the last few days we have had events involving cellphone use while on campus. We at OGMS, are continuosly working to provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students. To help support families to be aware of how to be on top of these sites and apps, I am sharing links below to learn about some of the most popular uses for tweens and teens. Please take the time to read about the proper use of cellphones, as well as any other app you know or suspect your child uses.
First, it is important for all students and families to know we do have an electronic devices use policy. The students are told at the beginning of the school year, and reminded throughout the year, that our campus follows the "OGMS Cell Phone Policy" for devices. Cell phones should be off and out of sight once they step onto campus until the end of the school day. The exception is under direct supervision of a teacher within the classroom setting. If parents/guardians need to message their students we ask that they please call the office at 925 682-1843 and we'll make sure your student gets the information as promptly as possible.
Almost all of our students have access to the internet on some device whether it be a smartphone and/or tablet. Many parents and guardians however may not be infomred on the ins and outs of the wide variety of social media sites and apps their children use regularly and are often caught off-guard to learn about some of the situations and conflict caused by its unsupervised use. Also, it is important for us to dicsuss with students on the responsibility of using such applications and how to apply proper cellphone etiquette.
This week we will be conducting a school assembly on Cell Phone/ Social Media to reiterate this to our students:
4th Period- Grade 6
6th Period- Grade 7
7th Period - Grade 8
Please know that we as a school community are here to support your child's social and emotional well-being, which includes administrators, counselors, and teachers.
Sincerely,
Dr. Alejandro Ramos

International Baccaloreaute (IB) March Profile -Thinkers
The IB -Learner Profile aims to develop students who are Thinkers: "Noun - A person who thinks deeply and seriously. A person with highly developed intellectual powers, especially one whose profession involves intellectual activity."
What does it mean to be a thinker?
A thinker is a person who spends a lot of time thinking deeply about important things, especially someone who is famous for thinking of new or interesting ideas.
How to be a thinker:
- Be attentive to opportunities to use critical thinking.
- Self-confidence in one's own abilities to reason.
- Open-mindedness regarding divergent worldviews.
- Flexibility in considering alternatives and opinions.
- Thinkers are motivated by endeavors that increase knowledge and competence.
