March News
Principal's Message
Dear University Elementary Families,
February flew by! The PTA sponsored Valentine's Family Dance was a huge success. We had a great turnout and ample opportunity for parents to get to know one another better. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this a fun filled event. Our volunteers are the best!
The 2nd trimester has come to an end and the 3rd and final trimester of the year has begun. Assessments are wrapping up as teachers measure student growth over the the 2nd trimester. Report cards go home on Friday, March 13th.
March is here and we have a busy month ahead. In celebration of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America we have our annual Book Fair this week. We kicked it off with Bagels & Books today and have a variety of fun activities this week including Movie Night on Thursday. This week we also have David Carranza Banuelos and Evita Morellon representing our school at the Sonoma County Spelling Bee held at Hidden Valley Elementary School in Santa Rosa.
Next week we will have our University Elementary Battle of the Books on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Grace Norstrom and Matthew Chan will represent our school in the Future Chef Competition held at Lawrence Jones. Immediately following, on Thursday our top two Battle of the Books teams will move on to the districtwide event held in the TAG building at Rancho Cotate High School.
Our English Language Learners will be engaged in the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) this month. There are four components, reading, writing, listening and speaking.
All 3rd-5th grade students will be familiarizing themselves with the online California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) platform. Parents can explore these by visiting http://www.caaspp.org/index.html. Click on Online Practice and Training and then click on Student Interface Practice and Training, and then you can log in as a guest. Being familiar with the testing platform will allow our students to progress through the assessment with less apprehension and greater confidence.
School will not be in session the week of March 16th through the 20th. Spring Break is a time to enjoy friends and family at our leisure without the hustle bustle of our normal busy schedule. School session resumes on Monday, March 23rd.
Best regards,
Charlotte Straub
