Communication/Collaboration Tools in the Classroom

Dear parents, and students,

As the year is getting started, I would like to make you aware of my class protocol. We are fortunate enough to be living in a society where technology is very accessible and applicable to many aspects of life. I have found in my own experience that the use of technology in the classroom is very helpful and can help facilitate learning in a way that has never been done before. The point of this newsletter is to inform you of the following ways that I will be incorporating technology into my class, in order to facilitate learning of 8th grade English.

Guaranteed to Facilitate Learning


Every student will be required to create a class WordPress account. WordPress is a blogging platform that will allow every student to share their thoughts on class readings and discussions. This will be especially beneficial for students who are apprehensive to participating in class discussion. This will allow me to give every student daily participation points. We will periodically read random blog posts aloud to further facilitate discussion.


We will have a class YouTube account that we will post student projects on. There will be a final project after every unit, and the medium for this project will often times be allowed to be a video. Whether it be a rein-action of a pivotal scene or an informative interview, this YouTube account will be a great way to share class projects among the class. The value of video projects is that they show student understanding of class material.


Every student will be required to create a Twitter account. Periodically through our readings, I will assign tweeting assignments. This could be anything from tweeting an important character quote, to a discussion question that came up in the reading, to a plot clarification question, depending on the assignment. Every tweet must include our class hashtag: #BeavEnglish2015
