Topic Two Envision Math
Objectives
· Students compute sums and differences mentally using Commutative and Associative Properties of Addition, compatible numbers, and compensation.
· Students round whole numbers through millions an decimals through thousandths
· Students use rounding and compatible numbers to estimate sums and differences of whole numbers and decimals.
· Students will add and subtract decimals in tenths and hundredths using models.
· Students use pictures and write equations to help them solve problems.
· Students compute differences of decimals involving tenths, hundredths, and thousandths.
· Students compute sums of decimals involving tenths, hundredths, and thousandths.
Vocabulary
Commutative Property of Addition – The order of addends can be changed and the sum remains the same
Associative Property of Addition- Addends can be regrouped and the sum remains the same
compatible numbers- Numbers that are easy to compute with mentally
compensation- Adjusting one number of an operation to make computations easier and balancing the adjustment by changing the other number.
rounding- A process that determines which multiple of 10, 100, 1000
How To Log Into Blackboard To Watch Math Videos
- 1. Go to the district home page. www.usd232.org
- 2.. At the bottom of the page, click on “New Blackboard Learn Site”
- 3. When you see the Blackboard login page, click on “View Class Catalog” under the login.
- 4. On the top of the page in the right hand corner, click on “Community”
- 5. The left hand side of the page will say, “Organization Search” and in the box type: “ horizon fifth grade” and then click “Go”
- 6. Click on the link displayed: School-He-5th
- 7. On the left hand side you will notice “Flipped Math Links”, click on that.
- 8. Find the file that coordinates to the lesson that is due for the following day. Your child should have this written in their agenda.
- 9. Then, watch the videos that are displayed for comprehension.
*Once that is accomplished, log off and go to the Pearson
How to Log Onto Pearson Website
- 1. Login to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com
- 2. Login using their username and password they use to take a test
- 3. Click the “To Do” section
- 4. Click “Explore” at the top of the page
- 5. Choose the topic
- 6. Choose the lesson
- 7. Click “View”
That is how they can watch the videos nightly. I think Internet Explorer is the better browser to use.
