Various Reminders
Please remember the importance of parent contacts, especially at the beginning of the school year. It's so important to do this for positive reasons first. I strongly encourage you to contact your homeroom students this first week to just make that positive contact. If a parent phone number is not working, please let Ms. Wallace know so she can make corrections in PowerSchool, and also please contact your grade level school counselor. They can work through special channels to find contact information.
We will no longer have an after school ASPIRE program at CMS this year. Funding was drastically reduced, and I told them we were fine with no longer offering it this year. Also, please somehow encourage your students to complete free and reduced lunch application forms. They are online via our school webpage. BUT paper copies are also available in the main office (in English and Spanish) if you want to send any additional forms home to specific students.

Grant Opportunity for Educators - Truliant Federal Credit Union
At Truliant Federal Credit Union, we believe schools play a vital role in teaching better financial decision making.
To prove it, we’ve launched a grant program providing $200,000 for community schools in your area. We’re asking teachers to submit proposals for innovative classroom projects that help teach strengthen financial literacy. We want local educators to tell us more about the ways their projects will improve student’s financial capabilities.Teachers can collaborate with other teachers on projects, and projects can be existing or brand new. Teachers can apply for funding up to, but not exceeding $5,000. We encourage thinking outside of the box about topics like business, personal finance, economics, marketing and much more! The application period is now open and you can apply using the link below. We hope that you’ll visit the Financial Education Grants page of Truliant’s website and learn more about how teachers with your school system can apply. Grant Opportunity - Cabarrus County Education Foundation
Grants are awarded to teachers annually for up to $500 for classroom projects that identify special opportunities encompassing innovation, creativity, sustainability, and alignment with Cabarrus County School goals and curriculum standards. Some of this year’s recipients created an outdoor learning lab, explored Chinese paper cutting, held staff development training, built robotics into their curriculum, introduced stability balls, and even held a Resume Day that brought companies in to meet with students not attending college.
The Classroom Mini-Grant application is attached and will be due by October 11, 2016. It is also available on our website at www.ccefnc.org.
