Last Week of Library Checkouts

With the end of the year coming soon, next week will be the last week that we will have student library checkouts!

What We're Learning

Language Arts & Social Studies

This week in language arts we are spelling words with the prefixes re and un. While reading, students are working on retelling and rereading for understanding. In grammar, students are learning about pronouns. In writer's workshop, students are writing how-to articles.

Next week, we will be working on spelling words with open and closed syllables. Students will be making predictions while reading. In writer's workshop students will be learning about the different types of poems.

In social studies, we are discussing careers.

This week in math we are "stepping up to second grade." Students are revisiting place value and using it to compare and order numbers. Next week, students will be adding and subtracting on a one-hundreds chart as well as discussing multiplication as repeated addition.

In science, students are learning about the different parts of a plant. We've been discussing the roots, stem, leaves and flowers. Next week we will begin talking about a plant's life cycle.
