Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
November 15, 2019
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
Kids can be what they can see.
When students get asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" the answers are all too common: a teacher, a professional athlete, a singer, etc. Why is that? I believe it is because they see those roles more often than others.
Have you ever heard a student answer neurosurgeon, certified public accountant, or radiologic technologist? Probably not. But what exposure do students have to those types of careers? Unless a family member holds that career, probably none.
I've mentioned before that the greatest growth for people occurs outside of their comfort zones. And while attending a play may not be your metaphoric cup of tea, it could be the spark for a student to want to become an actor, actress, or director. Who knows, your son or daughter could become the next Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Aniston, or Steven Spielberg. But how would they ever know they could perform on Broadway, unless they are even shown what Broadway is.
This weekend the Fall Play "Farce of Nature" will be performed at Fulton High School. Cost is minimal and curtain time is 7:30 PM. It's a great opportunity for students to see real theatre instead of movies which utilize computer generated graphics. It is also a terrific way to support #SteamerNation.
Who knows; it could be the moment that a tiny spark is ignited in a young student's heart and leads them to the silver screen :)
SRO Leitzen's Tip of the Week!
Dress according to weather conditions. Emergencies can occur at anytime.
From the Desk of: Counselor Mrs. Meumann
It’s important that children know how to express their anger and frustrations in an appropriate way. Here are some appropriate ways for them to do that:
-Taking some deep breaths
-Asking for help
-Walking away and taking time out
-Talking with a grown up about what is happening
-Asking for a hug
-Describing how they feel
-Taking time to relax before trying again

Who Has the Other Sword?
While Mr. Houzenga would land the winning strike, it was Mrs. Strehlow who had the last laugh. She was the mastermind behind the ruse. Why, you might ask? Because she was working on her balloon making skills for an upcoming classroom project and thought to add some fun to a Friday at FES.
Thank you, Mrs. Strehlow, for continuing to make FES the greatest little elementary school in the universe!
