Cedar Grove Friday Flash
January 5, 2018
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
We were so excited to welcome the children back to school after what we hope was a fun, restful, and enjoyable winter break. We are jumping into the new year with a lot of upcoming events, so please review all the events below so you don't miss anything! Please note that student group pictures will take place on Monday and Tuesday, January 8 and 9, and School Spirit Day is also on January 9. Students can bring a stuffed animal to school.
Our Feed the Bears Campaign has currently raised about $7,000.00, and our goal is $11,000.00. As we have previously mentioned, the donations you provide directly support school programs that benefit the children. We would like to congratulate Mrs. Gross's class for winning the Feed the Bears contest in December. As always, we appreciate what our families and the PTA members are doing to support our school - thank you!
Last but not least, please check out our Media Monthly link below for some great information!

Free Vision Screenings!
Dr Barry Lebowitz, an optometrist & father of Kindergartner Juliana Lebowitz provides FREE computerized vision screenings for kids age 3-7 to detect vision disorders which can cause “lazy eye” or amblyopia. Amblyopia is a lack of development of the visual cortex of the brain and affects 2-5% of children. Causes include a turned eye or uncorrected nearsightedness , farsightedness or astigmatism in one or both eyes. Amblyopia is asymptomatic, and if not detected and treated by age 7, decreased vision may be permanent. The CDC Preventive Taskforce recommends screening all kids for lazy eye & its risk factors between ages 3 and 5.
Screenings are provided in his office, Potomac Eye Care, located across from Rachel Carson Elementary School in North Potomac. Screenings are done using a small handheld instrument & take about 30 seconds. Contact information is available at www.PotomacEyecare.com
