Classroom Teacher Survey for Students
I received an email yesterday from Human Resources that opens the window for a survey that classroom teachers are required to administer to students to get feedback on their experience in your classes this year. Please choose one of your classes and email the survey to the students in that class. The survey window is open now and it closes May 19, 2023. You can use the blurb below for survey administration instructions.
"This survey is for teachers to get feedback from their students regarding the school year. Please complete this survey so that I can better understand how to support your learning as your teacher. Thank you!"
Once the survey window closes, building administrators will receive the individualized results and we will share them with you. Due to the timing of when we are being asked to administer the survey, it is not likely that building administrators will be able to discuss your survey results with you.
Meet Henry Banks II, new PE/Health teacher for 23-24 SY!
Meet Jennifer Laue, new PE/Health Teacher for the 23-24 SY!
Hi Guys! My name is Jen Laue. I’m one of the new PE teachers for the 2023-2024 school year. Most of my teaching career has been with the Affton School District. I have taught PE and health to grades 6-8.
My husband, Jay, teaches business at Affton High School. We have 3 children. Jack is a senior, Cole, a freshman, and our daughter Ellery, is in fifth grade. As a family, we spend lots of time coaching our kids as well as watching them play sports.
I am thrilled and honored to be a Junior Statesmen! Over the summer I have plans to be outside as much as possible. I enjoy hiking, biking, reading, and laughing! I can’t wait to get to know my new colleagues and teammates. Happy End of School Year to All!

Preparing Your Classroom for Summer Break & Summer School Classroom Use
- Please clear your teacher desk of everything, including drawers and surfaces.
- Remove all personal belongings from the classroom.
- Mark all things that are trash with a noticeable, legible sign.
- If your classroom has a tile floor, then the bookshelves have to be emptied. We will have boxes available. Please be mindful of how heavy you make the boxes. The saran wrap idea at the end of last year didn't work as well as I thought it would.
- We will be using the 6th grade wing for summer school.
Please don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.
Replacing Carpet with Tile
Please see the message below from Jason Mueller, Director of Facilities.
On Thursday evening we will ask the BOE to approve flooring work for this summer. Below is a copy of the affected schools and classrooms that we propose to remove carpet and replace with luxury vinyl tile (LVT). LVT is a solid surface floor material that does not require the labor and expense to maintain like VCT typical in most schools.
HIXSON - HALLWAY & STAIRS, RM 101, RM 124
WAFC, Avery, and Hixson work will occur after summer school.
Affected rooms will need to be packed up so all items can be easily moved into the hallway. We have boxes available. Please request them with a work order.
For our custodial staff safety I ask the following:
- Even though they may appear superhuman our custodians are human. If the person loading the box cannot pick it up please do not expect our staff to.
- The bottoms of all boxes must be taped shut
- Please have your staff tag the boxes with the room and staff members name
- All file cabinets, etc. must be unlocked and empty

Chromebook Collection
We will begin the collection of the Chromebooks on May 11th and will finish up collections by May 19th. Below is the schedule for collection. This year's collection will take place during ELA classes. More detailed information will be rolled out closer to the time of collection. We wanted to share this information with you now so you can make plans for the second semester.
If you have a need for Chromebooks in your class after collection has begun please submit a technology request well before the month of May so Jason Heisel can plan accordingly. The request should have a minimum and max need.
Example: Need at least 3 Chromebooks and would love to have 15 Chromebooks available for the following dates: May 12-May 15th to allow learners to finish up submitting late work
Please keep in mind that a team of people worked to create this schedule based on feedback from last year and this year as well as working around major events that are on the calendar and testing schedules.
If you have any questions please let Jason P. Heisel, our building technology specialist, know via email.
