The Mustang Minute
June 10, 2023 - Issue 35
We Play All Four Quarters!
Everyone loves a Bill Belichick Quote! To say it was a busy week does not quite describe it! June is always a busy month and this week had something for every grade!
Literary Lunch
A selection of grade 6 students we able to join members of the senior center and Morrell Library reading club for a lunch focused on reading. All participants read the same book, The Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo, and then joined together to discuss the book, eat lunch, and play some student made board games together. This intergenerational event is in it's 23 year! It is such a great way to connect with our larger Norwood Community!
Concerts!
All three grades had their spring concerts this week. It was wonderful to see a year's worth of work and practice come together for two nights of amazing performances. A big thank you to our music staff along with music teachers from NHS and all the elementary schools as wrangling a few hundred students in no small feat!
Career Fair
Grade 7 spent a morning this week learning about a variety of jobs from the people that do them! We welcomed guests from the construction industry, architecture, medical fields, and many more. Students learned about what each career entails and how you get into that field - starting in grade 8! A great way to get our students thinking about what comes next! Thank you to our guidance department for organizing this event!
Grade 8 Dance
Last night grade 8 celebrated the beginning of the end of their time at CMS in style! The students were Red Carpet Ready and had a blast! I would like to thank all the parents that donated snacks and a special shout out to the parents that helped set up! Also a big thank you to Meg Griffin and Jen Conley for helping get decorations and finding sponsors for our DJ. Thank you to Dempsey Insurance and the Norwood Junior Women's Club for sponsoring! And a BIG Thank you to the many teachers that stayed and to the NPD who made sure everyone got home safe! Every student danced the night away!

Winner Wheel Winner!
Congratulations to Mary Lou Conneely- she is the winner of an Apple Watch! (see screenshot)
Thank you to everyone who bought tickets for the May Winner Wheel. We couldn't make Coakley the enriching school it is without your support. This raffle brought in about $100 which will go towards end of the year events for the students.
Please look out for future fundraisers and reach out to the PTO at Coakleynorwoodpto@gmail.com with any questions or to find out more about how you can get involved. We have something for everyone: for those that simply want to attend meetings to be in the know and contribute ideas up to running events... and everything in between. The more volunteers we have the more we can do for our kids :)
