Thank You Cathcart and Snohomish - Message from the Principal
We have just learned that Snohomish Education Foundation has awarded six grants to Cathcart Elementary to support student learning and the community. The Cathcart Parent Organization continues to support Cathcart through our annual Fun Run. They have already budgeted to pay for field trips up to $25 per student and have given $400 for classroom libraries. They have also purchased IXL software and Pebble Go software for the awesome new Windows laptops that we got this fall.
The CPO is currently deciding other ways they will be supporting the school. They purchased a new refrigerator for the Staff Room since the previous one froze the teacher's lunches and could not be adjusted. They are also looking to add two big Assembly Events and pay for the wonderful Art Smart program and supplies. We are looking at updating and replacing the Recess/Library games and activities that are available every day during mid-day recess. We are also looking at robotic kits for use in the library. We are also looking at having a Team of Cathcart teachers go to a national conference where they learn together about the most current best practices in math, reading and writing. Thank you for your continued support of Cathcart. We are so thankful to work in such a great community.
Counselor's Corner
The Holiday Gift Drive this year was our biggest yet, serving 129 Cathcart Cougars and their siblings! It was truly an astounding sight to see the generosity of our community. Thank you so much! Special thanks to the View Church, the local Latter Day Saints church, and Glacier Peak National Honor Society who provided gifts for our students.
Gratefully,
Kjerstin Nordtvedt Lee
Mid-Year Assistant Principal Reflection
Hello Cathcart Families,
Here we are at mid-year. Can you believe it? For me this year has gone faster than ever. Our daylight hours are now getting longer, and I am looking forward to our warmer days to come.
This is my second year at Cathcart as the Assistant Principal, and it has been a pleasure to continue to get to know your children and to support them in their academic learning and social/emotional growth. One of my responsibilities here at Cathcart is being a part of the Guidance Team. This team’s purpose is come together with the classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to brainstorm interventions, supports, etc. if there are any academic, behavioral, or social concerns with your student. The team meetings can be initiated either by a classroom teacher, parents or administration. If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out.
We have an amazing group of teachers and a strong community of parents. Together, Cathcart provides a safe place focused on the district’s vision of “Every student thrives”.
Happy Second Half!

School Closure - Weather Delays
- If inclement weather conditions occur during the night, the district office will decide whether to:
- Hold school (regular hours)
- Hold school (delayed start) - All schools will start two hours late
- Close school
Notification
In the event that our schools are closed or are starting late:
- Automated phone calls and emails are sent to all district families through the School Messenger system (the system is automatically populated with the primary phone numbers and email addresses available in the Skyward/Family Access system).
- A notice is posted on the district Facebook page - www.facebook.com/snohomishschooldistrict
- A notice is placed on the district website.
- Local television and radio stations are notified.
- Emails are sent through our listserv newsletter subscription system.
- A notice is sent to the statewide public emergency notification system - www.flashalertseattle.net
Because we know many are getting ready for school or leaving early, we try to get these notifications out to our school community between 5:15-5:45 a.m. If we are fully certain of the situation the evening in advance, we will let our families know at that time. If Snohomish is not mentioned during the newscasts, through School Messenger or on our website, you will know our schools are open and buses are operating on or near the normal schedule.
Limited transportation information
When weather conditions dictate that certain roads are not safely passable, the district will announce it is providing limited transportation (snow) routes. Please see the listing of limited transportation routes and schedules by clicking here.
- The times and locations on the limited transportation (snow) pdfs reflect normal pick-up times - please add two hours if there is a two-hour school delay.
- If routes operate on limited transportation (snow), those routes will be in effect for both the morning and afternoon, even if roads have been cleared during the day.
- There may be a situation in which there is no two-hour delay and buses are operating on limited transportation routes. In these cases, schools will start at normal times.
