High School Highlights
Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of August 29
The first full week is in the books for the 2022-2023 school year! It is so great to have our building filled with students again as they make new friends, learn new schedules, try new sports or clubs and become amazing young men and women. We can't wait to see what each of them accomplishes this year!
Each week our high school sends out a newsletter to update parents with important information. Included will be announcements, events, opportunities for students and more. Please check it out each week.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
Parking Reminder
Parent Pick-Up
Parents, if you pick up your son or daughter after school and head towards I-71, please consider making a right and exiting using Kintner Parkway rather than Miller Drive. This would help us alleviate some of the congestion at the end of the day. Thank you!
BWHS Arrival Information
The high school doors will open each morning at 7:15 a.m. Please do not enter the building before that time. When students arrive, they will need to report directly to the cafeteria where they will wait until the bell rings to dismiss to first period.
First period begins promptly at 7:40 a.m.
A few reminders from our front office...
Please remember, if your student is going to be absent, running late, or needs to leave early please call the attendance line ahead of time and leave a message at 740-965-7776. If a student is leaving early please call a minimum of 2 hours prior to the student's departure time.
We are also asking that parents/guardians call or provide a note ahead of time giving the student permission to sign themselves out and meet you outside in the loop. No student may leave early unless a parent/guardian has given permission. Even if your student is 18, they must have prior approval from a parent or guardian.
Finally, if parents need to drop off any items, please leave them on the table just inside the first secure door of our main entrance. There are post-it notes and pens available for you to label items. Please text your student to let them know their items are there. Students will be able to pick up their items in between classes. We will not be calling students out of class for dropped off items unless it is an urgent matter.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Important Reminders from our SRO!
School Resource Officer, Deputy Snyder, would like to share the following important reminders with our families. Please click here to read.
BWHS Academic Boosters
Academic Boosters - who are we? We are a group of organized parents who provide support to help improve the academic experience for all students, parents, and staff at BWHS. We provide An Evening of Excellence in September to recognize sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned a 3.5 GPA the previous year. We sponsor the annual Academic and Military Signing in the spring for graduating seniors who have been offered college scholarships and graduating seniors who have enlisted in Military Services. Students who earn a 5 on their AP exam receive a High Five yard sign provided by and delivered to their home by members of the Academic Boosters. Our staff at BWHS is crucial to the success of our students and the academic booster parents show them just how much we appreciate them by providing a few very small tokens of appreciation during staff appreciation week in April. We have many other ideas of ways we can expand and continue to support the academic efforts of our students and staff! We are looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Meetings are typically at 6:30pm on the second Monday of each month. (No December meeting.)
This year, our meetings are as follows: 9/6*, 10/10, 11/7, 1/9, 2/13, 3/13, 4/10, 5/8.
*Please note 9/6 is a Tuesday.
Math Peer Tutoring
We are pleased to share that Mu Alpha Theta (our math honor society) currently has 21 members with Jeevan Konduru serving as 22-23 and 23-24 President. The main goal of Mu Alpha Theta is to support our students by offering peer tutoring during student center when schedules allow. Interested students and families should contact their student's math teacher or email Mrs. Dawson (Mu Alpha Theta advisor) at kathydawson@bwls.net or Jeevan Konduru at 280811@bwls.net to ask about availability.
Global Scholars Program
Our Global Scholars Program is seeking interested freshmen and sophomores to join us. See the flyer below and contact Ms. Schoolcraft at hannahschoolcraft@bwls.net or in room 2407 (gray pod, second floor) if you are interested!
Join us for the Big Nut Strut!
The 13th annual BIG NUT STRUT is just around the corner! This is a fun community event held on October 9, 2022. It is an excellent way to show your support for the High School Academic Boosters! Our BW Boys' and Girls' Tennis programs would like to thank the BW community for helping them to recycle our plastic bags and turn them into benches for our new HS courts.
