Archives War, 1842

From Start

Mexican leaders began launching raids into Texas. In the spring of 1842, 700 soldiers under the command of Rafael Vasquez attacked San Antonio, Goliad, Refugio, and Victoria. The Texans feared an attack on Austin when they heard the Mexican troops were invading.

To Finish

President Sam Houston ordered that the government records, or archives, to be removed from the capital. The residents of Austin disagreed with this move. They suspected that this meant the capital would be moved back to Houston. Led by Angelina Eberly, the Austin residents shot at the officials that were loading documents onto wagons. This brief battle ended with the documents back at the capital of Austin.
