Our 3rd-5th grade students will be beginning their OSAS state testing the week of May 1st. One way that you can support your child at home is to make sure they are getting a good night's sleep every night! We know that taking tests can be tiring for students, so as a staff we provide lots of encouragement and breaks to make the experience as positive as possible. If you have any questions about state testing, please reach out to Ms. Thompson, Ms. Huerta, or to your child's teacher.

We are so excited that many of our students who need additional support in grade level reading and math learning will have the opportunity to participate in Summer Acceleration Academy this summer from July 10 - August 4, 2023 from 8am - 12pm with optional afternoon programming until 5:30pm through SUN or RESJ partners. Students from Whitman Elementary will be attending SAA at the Woodmere Elementary hub site.

Invitations for Summer Acceleration Academy are based on mid-year assessments identifying students who need support reaching grade level reading and math during this four week program. Families of students who are invited to participate in Summer Acceleration Academy will receive invitations to enroll online or through the school office by calling or returning a paper form that will be sent home in backpacks.

We feel this is an important opportunity for your student and understand that you may have other students in your house who need summer activities who do not meet the criteria for SAA. The RESJ department will be offering summer activities at many of the SAA sites. Stay tuned for enrollment information that will be coming soon.

Adding student and guardian pronouns is now available in Synergy!

Students and guardians can speak to Tay or Reggie in the office if they would like to add pronouns to their student/parent profile. Currently our system does not automatically populate pronouns - they will only be added at the request of a student and their guardian. Our school counselor, Jenny Locarno, is also available to answer any questions or facilitate any conversations around pronouns.

In support of Title I Family Involvement Requirements, the Title I District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) of Portland Public Schools has developed the following family policy statement:

Do you have a 5th grade student who will be attending Lane Middle School in the fall? If so, you are invited to Lane Family Night on 4/27 at 6:00 pm! This event will be hosted at Lane MS.
