Deerfield Elementary
February 2018
Greetings from the Office!
Since the weather from day to day is very unpredictable, parents are asked to pay close attention to the weather forecast and help your child make good decisions as to what to wear to school. Now that we have large amounts of snow students should have boots, snow pants, hats and mittens so they can enjoy the recess periods in comfort. We will continually watch the temperature to determine whether it is safe for students to have outside recess. Please put your child’s name on these items. Our lost and found area is already very full.
Sincerely,
Melinda Kamrath
Principal, Deerfield Elementary

Life in 4th Grade
Fourth graders have been very busy over the past couple of months. For our last inquiry project, we learned about the Native Americans of Wisconsin and how they lived long ago. The students chose a topic, did research, wrote an informational summary including a bibliography, and created a project demonstrating what they learned. In math, they have been working very hard on learning the beginnings of Algebra, including writing algebraic equations and using all four mathematical operations to solve word problems. We also met with our 1st grade buddies to make groundhog predictions for the upcoming holiday. In reading, the students just finished their unit learning about why people study space. They learned about famous astronomers and their discoveries, as well as tools used in space exploration, and how space technology affects our everyday lives. Coming up at the end of the month, 4th grade will be visiting The MacKenzie Environmental Center in Poynette to learn all about the maple sugaring process just as Wisconsin pioneers did long ago! Yum!
