Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School
Minutos de Mrs. Hutchins
Immersion Education – Teaching academic content in another language
Hello Fronteras Families!
What a fun and busy week at Fronteras!
The first bit of exciting news is that Fronteras was nominated earlier this winter as a National Showcase School for Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH). There are currently 10,000 CKH schools nationwide. 46 of those 10,000 are current nominees. If you remember from previous information shared, CKH is the behavior initiative adopted by the Mat-Su Borough in 2014. Fronteras is the only CKH Charter School in the district. On Tuesday, Flippen Group consultant, Ron Fox, visited Fronteras to evaluate our implementation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts. Mr. Fox visited all of the classrooms, learned the history of our school, met with staff in small groups and one on one, as well as took a lot of time to interact with our students as they went through their day. Being a former teacher and administrator, Mr. Fox could appreciate our school’s story and our numerous successes. For more information about the nomination and award process, please read the attached announcement from the Flippen Group.
The second piece of fun news is that all week, Mr. Neilson has been borrowing a few minutes of each PE class to teach our students the official 2017 School Choice dance. At 1:45pm, the staff and students went into the playground and performed the dance as a single unit. What an awesome activity! Thank you Mr. Neilson! You are truly a delight to work with! And thank you Fronteras staff for your commitment to supporting school choice!
A BIG Thank You to Mr. and Mrs. Mason for spending a ton of time after each snowfall, snow blowing our sidewalks, giant snow berms, and portable entryways! We cannot thank you enough for all you did for our school and the safety of everyone on campus!
A quick reminder about a few items coming up in February:
· 6th – MSBSD Budget Open House in Fronteras Gym – come learn what the school district’s funding looks like for FY18
· 17th – Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences
· 25th – Saturday of Science (for grades K-3)
Have a wonderful weekend!
Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Hutchins

Library News
Library is now in full swing! This week we welcomed the Kindergarten classes. The Kindergarten classes can check out one English and one Spanish book. Parents, please help them establish a routine and safe consistent location for their books. Black bags work great! Thanks for all your support!
Library Volunteers
Recycling
Our 4/5 graders have stepped up to form our very own recycling crew that will pick up recycling materials from our classrooms and ready for parents to take to the recycling center each Friday during their recess. A big thank you to Jennifer Manion and Dimitri Fonov for volunteering! Our school is recycling paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum. If you are interested in helping, please let the front desk know.
