PK 4.3 - Weekly Newsletter
Dear parents,
We can't believe that the first semester has gone by so fast! Students have grown, developed, and learned so much through the two units we worked on this semester. Their motivation and your encouragement were an essential part of this semester's success, so THANK YOU for everything you have done.
This week, everything was Christmas related!! We made a Christmas wreath and a snowman! As a closure to our Wheels Study, on Wednesday we had our "Day on Wheels". I cannot begin to explain what an excellent activity this was; full of both fun and concept review not only on wheels, but on everything students were exposed to this semester.
Below is a summary of the concepts and behaviors that were reinforced through this activity:
Social emotional:
Following limits and expectations, taking care of their needs, interacting with peers, participating cooperatively in group activities, problem solving in a calm way.
Physical:
Traveling skills, balancing skills, gross-motor skills, fine-motor skills,
Language:
Listening and understanding language, following directions, using language to express thoughts and needs
Cognitive:
Persistence, problem solving, flexibility, curiosity, inventiveness, making connections, applying past knowledge, using classification skills, Thinking symbolically (understanding images and symbols that represent things), engaging in socio-dramatic play.
Literacy:
Demonstrating knowledge of the alphabet, identifying letter names and sounds, demonstrating knowledge of print, responding to text
Math:
Counting, quantifying, understanding spatial relationships, understanding space, comparing and measuring (size, speed, area and the connection between the three)
Science:
Understating where materials come from, understanding the physical properties of objects, understating why things are make a certain way.
On Friday we had our Holiday Party where students came in their pajamas, decorated their Christmas cookies, watched “Mickey's Once upon a Christmas” and enjoyed some cookies and hot cocoa!!!
Words will never be enough to express our gratitude towards all you have done to show us your support and love! You and your children are wonderful!!! We hope you have a very fun and restful break and we send you our best wishes for the new year!
