Antonio Vivaldi's Life

Antonio was born into a large family. At age 15 he began studying to become a priest. He became a priest in 1703. His father taught him to play the violin. Antonio and his father Giovanni sometimes played together at church. In 1703 Antonio became a music teacher at the school of Ospedale della Pieta, also known as the Hospital of Mercy. Antonio worked at the Ospedale della Pieta school for 40 years. But then moved to Vienna to work for one of his friends who was an emperor better known as Charles VI. But suddenly Charles died from food poisoning. Not long after on July 28, 1741 Antonio Vivaldi died.

Antonio Vivaldi was born in Italy on March 4, 1678. He lived in Venice Italy for most of his life. The picture on the left shows the small town of Bologna. The center of the town is protected by a large stone wall with multiple entrances. The city contains homes, shops, and the church.
