Oakwood Intermediate PTO Newsletter

September 2013

Welcome from Jeff Mann, Principal, Oakwood Intermediate School

Dear Oakwood Families,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 Oakwood Wildcat School Year! In case you have not noticed, we have some new faces in the front office this year. Our new assistant principal, Mrs. Ramirez, came to Oakwood from South Knoll Elementary where she served as the assistant principal for the last 5 years. Mrs. Haferkamp, our new counselor, came from South Knoll Elementary where she has been the counselor for the past 2 years. I have been serving as an assistant principal for the past two years at A&M Consolidated High School. We are all very excited to be here at Oakwood Intermediate.

Please feel free to come in the office to visit with any of us if you have any concerns related to your child and their education. Furthermore, I encourage you to be involved with Oakwood. Volunteering in the school and joining the PTO are two great ways to start. Partnerships between the school and the homes can often be the difference students need to be successful in their educational career. Thank you for being a supportive and involved parent, your child will be the ultimate beneficiary. I look forward to meeting you and seeing you at Oakwood.

Greetings from Kelly Waguespack, PTO President

Greetings Wildcat Parents! Welcome to a new school year at Oakwood. I would like to invite all parents to be involved in the Oakwood PTO. The PTO works closely with the staff at Oakwood to provide the support needed to make Oakwood the best place it can be and we welcome all the help we can get. If you would like to be involved there is any opportunity for you no matter how much time you have to give…Book Fair, Fall Family Fun Night, workroom volunteers, the possibilities are endless. I invite you to join us this Wednesday, September 10 at noon in the library for our first PTO meeting of the year. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear about all of the projects PTO has going this year. Finally, don’t forget to like us on Facebook to stay informed about all that is going on at Oakwood this year.

I look forward to a great year at Oakwood.

Register now for Volunteering in Public Schools (VIPS)

Thanks to everyone that has volunteered to help out at Oakwood this year! There are so many ways to get involved! Remember, you need to complete 2 forms before you can volunteer:

1- Get Involved at Oakwood school Volunteer Form that tells us where you'd be interested in helping out and how to contact you.

2 - CSISD Online Volunteer Application to receive approval from the district. The district's new online application for VIPS can be found at: http://web.csisd.org/volunteer

Note that you must register with the district every year, so even if you were an approved volunteer last year, you still need to complete step 2 for this year. And unlike previous years, there will not be a "grace period," so sign up right away. It's quick and easy, so sign up today!
