Latino Family Literacy Project
We concluded our program on April 3. The parents that were involved were sad to see it end and wished it could have been longer than 10 weeks. They shared their scrapbooks during the last session and received their certificate in front of their children. We then concluded the evening with a celebratory dinner. The parents all said they would be spreading the word about the program and encouraging family and friends to attend next year.
End of the year incentives in March
We are busy trying to encourage staff and students to work hard until the very last day. We held 3rd quarter Positive Behavior Bashes right before Easter for students making positive choices with a mega bingo party. We also treated staff to Easter cupcakes and will be holding a Lucky Ducky drawing every Friday to award two staff members with a prize (Sonic gift card, markers, note pads, etc...).
4th grade Superhero Writing Camp
We held a Superhero Writing Camp for 4th grade the first week of April. Students and staff dressed in Superhero garb and wrote throughout the day in all their classes. Students worked on revising and editing with a Scavenger Hunt in the halls and in their classrooms.
Elementary School Reconfiguration
After the announcement of placements for next year on March 9, we have been busy staying on course to finish the year strong. Teachers were anxious to hear where they were going and with the news it seemed to relieve tension and stress. We are excited for what's ahead but focused on making these last few months successful and positive for everyone. I have been proud of the reaction and attitude of our staff. There is a shared vision about where KISD is going and its benefit to our students.
