Sachse Mustang Band Updates
October 24, 2023
CONTEST SEASON FLEW BY
Before our first trip to Midland you were warned how quickly the season would fly by and it truly has. This season has provided a lot of fun shows, some awesome successes both in Midland and Birdville, and hopefully some really important reflections that we can learn from moving forward. That's really what it's all about, the process and what we can learn along the way. We will very quickly shift more energy back to our next CONTEST season which is our preparations for TMEA Region/ AREA/ and State. These auditions will begin for freshmen in just 3 weeks on November 11, 2023 at Rockwall Heath High School. All after school marching rehearsals are finished for the fall semester except for run throughs the days of football games. Some classes will still meet outside so keep watching the band app for any of those updates or necessary changes due to weather.
Band Fest Tickets*
ALL STUDENTS were checked out 4 tickets to sell to anyone that would like to attend band fest.
STUDENTS have until TOMORROW MORNING to get all tickets and money turned in from this event!
Make sure you have turned in any unsold tickets and all money for tickets sold to the bandhall dropbox that is in the band office door.
Anything outstanding after the start of school tomorrow will be charged to your CHARMS account. Make sure you have taken care of this completely, we will not accept unsold tickets after tomorrow morning!
FINAL week of Fundraiser
Do you want to see your directors with NEON hair/ beards?
We have one final week to raiser money to reach our goal of $50,000. If we hit our goal your directors will have neon hair for an entire WEEK. For each 10K past that, we will add additional weeks! Share that link out and get some e-mails added to see if we can reach our goal this year!

Audition times will not be available until the week of the contest.

Spring Band Trip
Make sure that you are up to date with all payments as these go straight to our travel agent. All those attending the trip should have paid $450 by the end of October.
Eligibility
THIS WEEK IS THE start of new eligibility. Any students who were not eligible due to 6 weeks grades may be now.
ALL students grades are being reviewed and new eligibility status will affect this Friday's game. Current eligibility is based on your 9 weeks grades. This also means that if you failed a waivable class, you would be in need of another form filled out. Students needing a waiver will received them tomorrow in class and need to get them turned in to the main office first thing on Thursday morning.
Below is repeated information
Eligibility can be very confusing as there are exceptions to some classes. It can also be confusing as to when students technically become ineligible/ eligible. We work to communicate directly with students who may be affected so they are clear with when they are able/ not to participate. ALL students are eligible for all practices regardless as this is also a class and grades are taken for practices. Most performances, depending on the nature of that performance are affected by eligibility. Please do not assume that your child is not eligible. Reach out to a director for clarification if your child is also unsure.
The end of the first 6 Weeks will be the first check to determine eligibility. It is imperative that students are passing all classes at both the 6 and 9 Weeks for all marching band activities. This is one of the confusing pieces as the FIRST 6 Weeks grade is the only 6 Weeks Report that a student can lose eligibility. All other 3 and 6 week grade checks can only help a student regain, but will not cause them to lose eligibility.
Finally, please be aware that due to the complicated nature of the system and calendar, it is highly likely that classroom teachers that don't handle eligibility regularly may not understand how it works. Please refer to a band director to answer questions about eligibility.
For a listing of courses exempt from ineligibility, go to our course guides page. Page 20 is where you will find all exempt courses.

Important Reminders (repeat announcements)
ALL students being dropped off or picked up for ALL events, PARENTS MUST PARK!!! DO NOT STOP AND DROP OFF AT THE CORNER OR IN THE FIRE LANE.
Per Mr. Creel: "There are no more warnings. If a student is caught being dropped off there, they will be suspended from the next game or contest. That discipline will come from me and there is no appeal when that occurs."
Please follow instructions regarding pick up and drop off, it would be a shame to miss out on a game/ contest because we can't follow simple instructions.
Parents, please use the parent band app if you have questions that you need answered. The main band app is intended to allow staff to get necessary information to the entire group all at one time. It is not intended to be your facebook page. Please use it appropriately or it will be necessary to turn off all commenting on the main page.
Student guidelines for football games expectations are reviewed during inspection. Students who are not able to meet expectations outlined in the band handbook may be subject to removal from the program. All students and parents have signed and agreed to these expectations in the band handbook, inspection reminders are simply reminders of expectations that are already in place. If you need to pick up a copy of the band handbook, we have extras in the bandhall office available for anyone who needs them.
Looking Ahead...
High School Region auditions will be hosted at Sachse High School on Saturday, December 2, 2023 and phase 2 on Monday, December 4, 2023. This involves a majority of our students and since we are hosting we have LOTS of volunteer opportunities. Keep an eye out for information to sign up for these events!

POST GAME PICK-UP
The same expectations as student drop-offs apply to pick-up. Please make sure to enter the front parking lot and find a parking space to wait for your student to come to you. Do NOT park in the fire lane to pick them up even if they happen to be coming out at that time, this backs up traffic for other parents trying to get into the parking lot.

Most Spring activities are listed as well.
