Proposed Change to Hawley PTA Bylaws
Over the past several months, the Hawley PTA Board has been discussing the possible restructuring of the Executive Board of the Hawley PTA for the 2018/2019 school year; this restructuring is intended to add efficiency to the Board and better engage and empower the PTA Membership. The current Board proposes an amendment to the Hawley PTA Bylaws (see below) to restructure the PTA Board. Thus, we will be holding a Special Meeting on Thursday, April 26th at 9:30am to discuss and vote on the proposed amendment. We encourage you to join us for this important conversation.
Proposed amendment to the Hawley PTA Bylaws:
Article VI--Officers
Section 1. The officers of the local PTA shall be president(s), vice president(s), secretary, and treasurer.
Furthermore, many of our PTA Board positions are up for election this year. We hope you will consider running for one of these leadership opportunities! Elections will be held for the positions of: President(s), Vice-President(s) and Treasurer. The exact positions will be determined by the outcome of the vote scheduled for our April 26th meeting.
Anyone interested in running for a PTA Board position is encouraged to contact our Nominating Committee. Nominees will be announced via the PTA Newsletter on May 12th. Additional members wishing to run for a Board position must notify Co-Presidents by May 29th. Elections will take place at our Hawley PTA Meeting on Tuesday, June 12th at 9:30am. (Nominating Committee contact information: Debbie Clark: debbie@clarisconstruction.com, Sara Wasley: wasleys@newtown.k12.ct.us, Nancy White: nancygwhite@yahoo.com)

Excess PTA Funds Update
In recent months, the PTA has been discussing how to spend excess PTA funds. These excess funds are a result of programs and events exceeding amounts expected as well as expenses from programs and events staying at or below budgeted amounts. Suggestions have been provided by the school staff and students.
We wanted to share additional information we have received on one of those items, Basketball hoops. There are currently 2 fixed height basketball hoops on the playground blacktop. These are at a height that is difficult for many students to reach. Thus the suggestions to add two additional basketball hoops. The quote from the vendor is for two installed adjustable height basketball hoops, $7,745.
We encourage you to attend the upcoming PTA meeting, if you cannot attend please share your thoughts with us at: hawleypta@gmail.com
