We're happy to share that we've been able to arrange for another COVID vaccination event at Boone! Please see link to the flier to sign up. The first dose event will be on Monday 1/31/22, and the second dose event will be on Tuesday 2/22/22. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to have your child vaccinated here at Boone. Once students are fully vaccinated, as long as they are not showing any COVID symptoms they will not need to quarantine if they are found to be a close contact of a person who has tested positive. All students ages 5 and older are eligible, and parents/community members may sign up as well.

All students who get vaccinated at each these events are eligible to receive a $50 Visa gift card per dose (total of $100 for both doses) which will be mailed to the home address of the parent/guardian that was used when registering.

At the 1/18/22 LSC Meeting, the LSC voted to proceed with the CPS school name change process for Boone. We welcome all community members and school stakeholders to participate in this action project over the course of the next several months. Here are the dates of upcoming meetings that have been scheduled so far:

• Tuesday 2/8/22 at 2:15PM - Virtual Renaming Advisory Council Planning Meeting

• Friday 2/11/22 - Student Engagement meetings (Students only, during the school day)

• Tuesday 2/15/22 at 4:00PM - Virtual LSC Meeting with Public Participation

We will have three additional community meetings that will take place in February, March and possibly April where community members are encouraged to participate and learn more about the name change process and provide input as we begin the nomination process for potential new names for Boone. Students in all grades PK-8 will also participate in the process in their classrooms.

On Wednesday, January 19, SPACE Ambassadors and Social Justice Club members attended a viewing party for the WE Global Classroom: Taking Action for Equity and Human Rights. Students heard from guest speakers including adults and students from around the country. They were given suggestions on how they can help make the world a better place through actively creating opportunities using technology to help take action for Equity and Human Rights. SPACE Ambassadors are middle school students who assist with conflict resolution and problem solving with their peers. They are leaders, helping their peers build positive relationships while supporting them in developing agency and self-advocacy. "SPACE" stands for "Self-Awareness, Positive Growth, Accountability, Communication, Empathy."

As of the time of publishing this Boone Post in AM of Friday 1/28/22, so far we have not been notified of any actionable cases of COVID-19 at Boone for this week. This is a huge difference from last week's case count of 18, and we are hopeful that our mitigation measures combined with dropping case counts across the city will continue to be the trend.

We know that weekly testing is a powerful way to stop further spread of COVID-19 in our school as well as in our homes and the larger community. We encourage all families to please sign your child up for the FREE weekly testing being offered at Boone. We currently have over 350 students signed up, and we want to keep growing that number. Local School Council members are elected every two years by parents, community members, and school staff. Members serve two-year terms, with the exception of student representatives, who serve one-year terms. How to Apply

If you are a parent, community member, student, or teacher looking to get more involved with your school, we encourage you to consider running in your school’s LSC election.

The application window for the 2022 LSC elections opened on January 3, 2022. To apply, candidates must download and fill out the application forms and return them with two forms of identification to the school for which they intend to run as a candidate by Friday, March 4, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. CST.

• Parents and community members have the option to file a Form 4-22 Candidate Statement.
• School staff candidates must file a Form 5-22 School Staff Candidate Information Form.
• High school student candidates must file a Form 6-22 Student Candidate Information Form.

Elementary students may run for a seat in Traditional LSCs. Students in sixth grade and up may now run!

LSC Judge Applications

• Judge application, IRS W-9 Form, and CPS Vendor request forms are due via email to LSCJudge@cps.edu on or before March 8, 2022. The judge applications and supporting documents are on the LSC Website.

The CPS Wellness policy states that students can be outside for recess if the temperature (with wind chill factor) is 15 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Please be sure to send students with appropriate winter gear for the cold, and feel free to reach out to the Main Office if you are in need of assistance with getting winter gear for your students. There is a great benefit to students being able to get outside and move around and exercise, and so we want to have students outside as much as possible. However, if the temperature or wind chill is below 15 degrees, students will be allowed to enter the building in the morning beginning at 8:05AM, and will remain indoors for recess.

Parent Portal gives parents the ability to view students' grades in real time. If you are setting up your Parent Portal account for the first time, please visit the First Time Parent Portal Set-Up link. This is a one-time step and not necessary after every school year. Once you receive your email from Aspen to help set up your username and password, you can access Parent Portal at Aspen Parent Portal.

If you already have a Parent Portal account, but are running into technical issues (forgot password, locked out, etc), please email Boone's tech coordinator Patrick Chi (ptchi@cps.edu) so he can reset your account.
