Message from the Principal

Hello Kimball Hill Parents,


We had another great week watching our students work hard, following school routines. Teachers, Specialists and Interventionists are hard at work assessing students to determine their instructional levels and identify students in need of some extra support. More information will be shared with all those impacted.

Parent-Teacher conferences in November will be in-person this school year. We prefer parents to attend in-person as school is open; however if you are unable, we are happy to provide a virtual option. Please schedule through your child(ren) teacher.

This upcoming week, we will be having our first Cougar Rally to celebrate the success of our students demonstrating such stellar behavior. We are excited to come together as a whole group, virtually. We will also be participating in our Safety Week.

Back to School Event Fun

Thank you to our PTA board for hosting such a fun Back to School event. It was such a huge turn out and so nice seeing our families interact and have such a fun time! Big shout out to our parent, Mr. Wells who did an amazing job dj'ing! Thank you to ALL familes who were able to make it and we missed those that could not attend!

Safety Week Reminder

As mentioned previously, our school-wide Safety Week will be next week where we practice drills and how to be safe and responsible if a drill were to happen. Each year, school are required by by Illinois School Code to conduct the following drills:

  • Three evacuation drills. One of the three evacuation drills must be supervised by the fire department.

  • One bus evacuation drill.

  • One severe weather/shelter-in-place drill.

  • Two law enforcement (lockdown) drills. One of these two law enforcement drills must be a staff initiated lock-down. The schools also conduct an annual drill review meeting with principals and representatives from police and fire departments to continuously improve each school’s readiness to respond to an emergency and/or crisis situation.New this year, parents can opt out of the Lockdown drill; which is linked below. Shield Covid Testing

We had our first week of Shield testing that went well. For students that are unable to provide enough saliva, they are just being told nice job and returning to class. This is not intended to be stressful for students and if it doesn't work, the parent will be called.

Exterior Grounds

I know there has been some questions about our exterior grounds so I wanted to provide an update. The exterior look of our school is as important to me as the interior. While we have worked so hard to maintain a beautiful, vibrant and safe indoor environment, we are working hard to beautify our exterior grounds. As you can imagine, some of the issues are beyond my control so I am working with our School Resource Officer in the Rolling Meadows Police Department as well as the District Operations Department. There has been an increase in the number of people vandalizing and trashing our exterior grounds after hours, causing an enormous mess every couple days. Please know we are working tirelessy to have this cleaned up by the time school begins.

We were able to have our custodial crew do a thorough cleanup of our building grounds. Exterior main entrance doors have been pressured washed, and any reachable exterior windows have been power washed as well. We have painted the classroom numbers and map on the blacktop in the back and will continue to work over the weekend to paint the faded doors on the east side of the building.

All the crumbled asphalt that many of you have seen, were removed and is scheduled to be fixed in the next couple weeks. This took time to get scheduled and has always been a priority. Our district custodial team has worked with a magnetic pick up sweeper to ensure we didn't miss any sharp objects in the mulch and grass. We will continue to patrol the ground as much as possible on a daily basis. I am looking into purchasing signs for outdoors and possibly some lighting to prevent loitering from happening overnight.

Outdoor Recess District Procedures

There have been some questions regarding cold weather procedures for recess. We are hoping to have a few more months of beautiful weather and this to be an FYI. Please see our district-wide outdoor procedures below. If your child is in need of a winter jacket, please send me an email; lacamerm@ccsd15.net

Students generally go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.

  • Staff members provide playground supervision. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
    Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.

    • If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.

  • Warm weather: Students will be outside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is below 100 degrees. Students will be inside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is 100 degrees or above.
    Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.

En espanol Recess

Los estudiantes generalmente salen al recreo todos los días, por lo que deben vestirse adecuadamente por el clima. Solo se hacen excepciones cuando un niño/a trae una nota del médico que lo excusa del recreo al aire libre.

Los miembros del personal proporcionan supervisión en el patio de recreo. Si los estudiantes no siguen las expectativas de comportamiento, un miembro del personal abordará el comportamiento con el/los estudiante/s. Según el comportamiento, el niño/a será enviado a hablar con un administrador.

Clima frío: El recreo interior se determina según las siguientes pautas:
